At what point do the players get to be held accountable? DL made those moves and traded assets because he wanted to give these current players another shot. They've won two cups, he was following the same formula that got the team Jeff Carter and Gaborik.

Further, what message is this organization sending when they trot out players at a presser that essentially announced the canning of two guys that were responsible for two cups. I've never seen that and it was a bizzare presser.

Agreed on that last bit. It's going to be a country club next year. We don't have to speculate as to the rift between Lombardi/Sutter and the top guys. They wanted them to continue playing hard nose gut check hockey, and they didn't want to anymore. At the same time, though, Lombardi and Sutter made their mistakes.

I've said this in other threads, but there's enough blame here to pass around. Everyone should get a plate. Failing to do so exposes an agenda.

Listening to today's Sportsnet replay, Doug MacKlean is coming across as a bitter ex GM, and is just flabbergasted that Sutter was let go. Seems to think Sutter should get a pass for winning those two cups, completely ignoring how bad the team has played over the past 3 season under him.

If it's John Stevens, why not just make the announcement right away? I don't think he'll get the head coaching gig. Maybe they'll keep him on the staff as the D coach.

Waiting to see if Scotty Bowman wants to come out of retirement?

Oh wait, he's a bigger SOB than Sutter and our boys are too fragile right now after 5 years of Sutter.

Maybe Luc tells Blakey to hire his good friend from back home Michel Therrien, who did a great job back east with the high scoring Habs.

Maybe they want Gordon Bombay. They can spend their practices goofing off and roller skating at the mall!

Brutal presser.

No faith in Blake or Luc.

Also, I told you so on Rob Blake being the next GM.

Careful what you wish for. Cause another coach is not fixing the roster.

No, but another coach that can instill some offense will make losing less boring...

honestly bro, I'm still super anger over that move... he would have been gold on our 3rd line!!!!

Not resigning Versteeg was mistake since looking at the UFA forward market for next year he might be the best option :/

Gonna say it one more time: Versteeg ended up back on an NHL team essentially on accident. He was Europe bound, but due to insurance issues, couldn't go, attended EDM for a PTO and signed with Calgary. Blaming DL for that is hilarious.

Yes, props to him for making the most of his opportunity, and I thought he was good here, but the guy went through the UFA market untouched and then some.

I'm thinking he's being interviewed as a candidate. Why fire him and re-hire him if they like what he's got?

And to the folks asking who is available, assuming Blake is asking for someone with NHL experience which rules out guys like Travis Green:

Tops of my list is Gerard Gallant. Todd Rierden's name is out there. John Stevens WOULD be great imo but too closely connected with recent history, so that's a toughie.

rest of it is mostly guys freshly fired like Lindy Ruff, Ken Hitchcock, Willie D.

The only people that can instill offense, are players willing to pay the price to score.

It's hard to score in the NHL for a reason.

Kopitar at 30 years of age, already paid with Two cups, and kids now. IS 100% not interested in going to the net nightly and getting pounded into dust, and NO COACH is going to make him.

Where did Gabo score his goals from in 2014 also 2015, mostly in front of the net.

Where is Gabo now, floating, why ? take a guess.

Ovi/Crosby/Kane can score from anywhere, not everyone can do that.

I agree with what your saying, but I disagree that it's only the players. How many odd man breaks do the kings get on average? The system was about puck position at all times.

They were constantly going up the ice after the opposition had time to get all 5 guys back in position, leading to one guy dumping the puck in and one guy chasing. They were constantly outnumbered when coming from their own zone. They had to rely on turnovers in the offensive or neutral zones.

There's being defensive responsible, but imo they were too defensive. They need a coach that won't bench them for trying to create offense instead of playing safe along the boards.

Again youre right, they need to drive the net more. But at the same time, the system isn't helping much either.
