Interesting that San Jose is included as a "real contender" or it could be you trying to prove your point by including a team with a bunch of old guys.

Panarin is 25 for Chicago. Kane is better than any of the Kings players. Toews is arguable as well.

Crosby and Malkin are better than any of the Kings players.

I'm not saying the current core can't win another one, just saying that comparing Kopitar/Carter to Kane/Toews and Crosby/Malkin is not apples to apples.

The thing you over look is that other than Crosby/Malkin the Kings have the better roster and team..
As for Toews, he's Kopitar's equal even with Kopi having a down season.. Its the 'Hawks defense that sets them apart..

A team with a Kopitar, Carter, Quick, Doughty, Muzzin, Toffoli, Pearson, Martinez, Old Brown, Old Gaborik should be a PO team period.. they failed to do so because of various reason the most damning being injuries but now its time to step up because I'm sure the next coach will allow them 100x more offensive freedom...

Considering the fact that Blake said he is going to heavily rely on Futa I think Futa will eventually be promoted to GM and Blake steps into a different role with the team. I'd love for Futa to be GM.

I read somewhere that Dean didn't listen to his inner circle about ditching Sutter last season , I wonder how much of that was Futa. Futa can definitely pick talent and maybe knowing he needs to find scoring players and not big players anymore maybe we can hit some homeruns. I'm excited for the draft .

Still a little sour about Losing Dean completely though.

At the end of the day it comes down to money. If LA outbids other teams, they can sign a good UFA. LA (aka south bay) is an appealing place to live and raise a family. If Lucic is willing to sign in frozen Edmonton for money, I am sure players will sign in LA, which is a ten times better place to live.

Where does the money come from? The Kings need a top 6 forward and any UFA that fits that bill will be too expensive.

There is money if the right moves are made. Below is one of my prior posts regarding off season moves.

For fun, below is a roster I developed for the offseason. Total cap hit based on the below is about $69 million, giving us about $4 million to play around with. Obviously this is just theoretically and relies on certain factors, but I think we have some flexibility next year. I personally think it will be key to sign Toffoli and Pearson together for $10 million, and try to land a game-changer like Oshie in the offseason. I am also not certain if Iginla will sign for such a low amount to come back, but I don't see any other teams interested in him considering the trend in the league to go young and fast. I think his presence will be key because we are missing heart and soul players like Richards on this team.

Oshie ($6,750,000)-Kopitar ($10MM)-Brodzinksi ($900,000)
Pearson ($5MM)-Carter ($5,272,727)-Toffoli ($5MM)
Brown ($5,875,000)-Kempe($894,167)-Iginla ($1MM)
Andreoff ($650,000)-Dowd ($640,000)-Clifford ($1.6MM)

Nolan($950,000)

Forbort ($650,000)-Doughty($7MM)
Muzzin ($4MM)-LaDue($1MM)
McNabb($1.7MM)-Gravel ($800,000)

Quick($5.8MM)
Budaj ($800,000)

Martinez traded for a 1st rounder and/or prospect
Greene placed on LTIR
Lewis picked up by Vegas

Gaborik buyout cap hit ($1,125,000)
Richards ($1,570,000)

For the millionth time.... we are in cap purgatory and need fresh, new blood... so why not fudging give the 3 European kids contracts and spots... i mean I'm pretty sure they're better than Clifford, Nolan, Shore, Lewis and Dowd from all the reports and highlights I've seen.....

Buying out Gaborik is not worth it, it only saves you money for like 2 years and then goes back up when you need to try to resign Doughty. You really need to give Gaborik a shot in a more offensive system because the buyout is rough.

If Oshie could be signed for that amount for 3 or 4 Years that would be ok but
coming off maybe his best year he will get a longer term and maybe a little more
money. The team you have should get you to the playoffs but not the Cup. I do
like the idea of tying up Toffoli and Pearson now while they are young and on the way up.

UFA-Kopitar-Iginla
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Kempe-Shore-Brown
Andreoff-Dowd-Brodzinski
Extra: Nolan

I foresee, per the rumors, Gaborik bought out. I also see Clifford being dealt. Kings have Andreoff, he is more versatile and younger and not as much money.

Kinda like it Alpha but here are my gripes..

1-NO to buying out Gaborik.. to any years and too much money..

2-No to Oshie, i'd rather use the money to resign all our RFAs and those Euro kids and see what we have

3- YES to trading Amart/Muzzin for a top 10 pick if Possible or a young power forward like Mike McCarron+

4- NO to keeping Clifford whose a jab short of becoming a veggie!! and not the good kind..

Big fat no to Oshie. 30 years old, coming off a career year, and has inflated stats because of Backstrom and Ovechkin. No thank you.

Re: age, Damacles (I think) always points out that the last few cup winners/contenders are all around the Kings' age. I'm not convinced we're "too old" any more than the previous incarnations of the Red Wings were. Eventually you run out of time, but you'll have a hard time convincing me Kopitar et. al. are dead until we see them with a different coach. And FWIW, just about everyone that played in the world cup were amongst the best players on their squads.

Considering the fact that Blake said he is going to heavily rely on Futa I think Futa will eventually be promoted to GM and Blake steps into a different role with the team. I'd love for Futa to be GM.

The optimist in me says just about everyone was on the same page EXCEPT DL and Sutter.

Prokhorkin - Kopitar - Toffoli

Pearson - Carter - Brodzinski

Brown - Kempe - Gaborik

Lewis - Dergachyov - Andreoff/Nolan

Forbort - Doughty

Muzzin - LaDue

Gravel - Martinez

Quick
Campbell

McNabb, Clifford and the rights to Bishop traded to LV... and yes I'm currently drinking so this team is totally imaginary and ridiculous..lol..... But i'd still do it

Not resigning Versteeg was mistake since looking at the UFA forward market for next year he might be the best option :/

Kempe - Kopitar - Toffoli
Pearson - Carter - Iginla
Brown - Bonino - Brodzinski
Clifford - Dowd - Connolly
*Andreoff, Auger

Muzzin - Doughty
Forbort - Martinez
Gravel - Ladue
*McNabb

Quick
Campbell

Lewis to Vegas
Nolan Traded
Shore Traded
Bonino Signed
Connolly Signed

For better or worse , let's see what happens. I'd like to see Gaborik in a more creative offensive system before getting rid of him. Brown on the other hand , even though I love the guy his cap hit is just to high for what he can bring offensively. I'd like to see Vegas pick Brown at the expense of some begging by Blake. A lineup I wouldn't mind would be

X-Kopitar-Toffoli
Pearson-Carter-Iginla
Gaborik-Kempe-Brodzinski
Nolan-Shore-Lewis
Mersch,Dowd

Forbort-Doughty
Muzzin-Ladue
Gravel-Martinez
Mcnabb

Quick

With rumors of Greene retiring and getting rid of plugs like a Clifford and Andreoff we will have plenty cap space already and if Brown is chosen then we should have over 10 million to bring a top line wing for Kopi and maybe even make the bottom 6 better. Definitely have some rooms to go back to contending. Therefore I don't think we are as bad as many believe.

I'm also very happy seeing Carter at the presser meaning he is a big part of this team and won't be traded.

Of course he won't be traded...only an idiot would trade your most consistent scorer when your team's biggest weakness is putting the puck in the net.

For people saying resign Iginla, would he succeed if we change our system to be faster and more offensive? Would he want to stay with Sutter gone?

So does Mike Stothers get a shot here???

Similar to our current defensive minded system but like he says, do your job on the defensive end and ill give you all the freedom you want on the offensive side..... sounds a lot like what we need.....
