Also, didn't Wally recommend a GM/HC combo of Goveia and Killiam back with Allan Watt hired him to find a replacement for Sunderland (before they hired Cui)? And the board decided to go with Jonsie anyways?

He didn’t do his interview with JJ yet, isn’t that scheduled for tomorrow?

That said I’d be on board with Killiam about time he got a promotion

The only advantage I see to Campbell over Killam is that I think Campbell has a better chance at assembling the better staff based on the rumors of him likley bringing Maksymic, Sherritt and Killam with him.

With Killam, I'm not sure he gets the same level of support staff, though he is familiar at least with Sherritt amongst that group.

But as for the role of HC itself, I'm perfectly fine going with Killam if Hervey likes him the best.

Yep for like 10 years. He is from Edmonton though. Played for the Golden Bears.

Closer to 20 years in Calgary.

His ties to Edmonton are pretty brief. . He's from Lethbridge but played University ball for the Golden Bears 1997-2001. Once he graduated coached a bit of high school ball in Cochrane for awhile before joining the Stamps in 2005 and has taken on progressive roles with the team ever since culminated as STC since 2010 and Assistant HC since 2019.

That said, I don't think you need every single member of the football operations team to have deep roots to Edmonton football to promote the Eskimo way if their values are already aligned which I believe Hervey would be a good judge of.

I just wonder about his experience other than special teams and whether he could pull together a staff.

He was a linebacker when he played and his first few years coaching were on the defensive side of the ball until taking on Special Teams, and Special Teams is more aligned with the defensive side than offensive side, so I'd suspect he's pretty in tune with the defensive aspects of the game, but he'd likely need a good OC.

As for experience putting a staff together, could go either way. Most of his career has been working with Hufnagel so he's at least seen how others do it well and he's also likely seen how holding on to almost an entire coaching staff too long like the Stamps had over the last 5 seasons under Dickinson can also backfire as you need to inject some new blood and new ideas from time to time.

Obviously there's a risk, like there always is with a first time HC, but there's little denying that this is a guy that was developed in a program that is exactly what Ed wants to promote here. He's likely the only one of the rookie HC options out there that I think is really worth a shot.

I'm fine with Kilam as Elks' HC. Those who are unfamiliar with him should read the 3 Down Nation article attached to Dunk's tweet written by one of his former players.

Hervey probably knows first hand Campbell’s shortcomings as coach. Maybe that’s why he’s leaning towards Kilam.
Does he though? He hired Campbell in BC, but Campbell didn't coach a single game before Hervey left. There's a little bit of familiarity from his playing days but as an offensive player I doubt they interacted a ton during his playing days.

I’m guessing he’s watched a lot of games though, especially since it was his roster.

Are JJ and Simon under contract for next year? Thought they each had a year left. Wonder if that impacts the decision to bring them both back in their former assistant roles for next year.
