They should. We changed the name because we were afraid of losing their sponsorship $$$, no?
It was just a convenient excuse for them to drop out of it. Blaming the name instead of them needing to cut their own costs and they didn't renew their sponsorship once the name was indeed changed. All the BPs stuff now is Brewhouse at the games.

Kelly out for a minimum 9 games but you have to think that his days with the Argos (and football) are done.

I am not sure what the CFL specifically found out in its investigation but apparently enough to make this move and comment that it was a "clear violation of league policy." Adios amigo.

Could see him getting on with one of those other American leagues. This probably doesn't even make the news down there.

But up here in Canada, if he were to come back by game 10 I think there would be a pile of pressure across Canada questioning his return. At least if Toronto has a heavy home schedule it probably won't matter as no one goes to games anyway there.

Agree with your post.

In the macho world of USA football its just another day but I really wonder if football and sports in general is really any different here in Canada. In looking at the Hockey Canada scandals I wonder if its just the tip of the iceberg.

LOL at nobody attending Argo games anyway but sadly the attendance isn't much better in Edmonton.

If it isn't Leaf or Oiler related then it becomes a secondary story but I am proud of the way the CFL reacted in the Kelly case. It's time that this junk was taken seriously.

Good.

Don't sense this was any form of wishy washy allegation either. The guy just screams "dickhead."

Think the overall problem for the CFL is going to be they can't afford to piss off any more fans. They might have to completely walk away from their MOP from last year or risk damaging any already struggling league

Guarantee he'll be the type to victim shame. Hopefully none of the Argo fans follow suit (I'm actually pretty confident they won't).
Most fans won't side with Kelly but all you have to do is look at the Bruins site and the Lucic incident to realize that some idiots will always scream "gold-digger." The Bruins and the NHL didn't demonstrate the bigger balls that the CFL showed today. The repeat offender in hockey was simply placed "on leave" and the league never said a word.

For sure, but I also think hockey fans are generally more toxic than what you'd see in a typical Argonauts fan. Argonauts fans are likely just as much fans of the CFL as the team and wouldn't be fond of an american player soiling the reputation of the league and its players.

If this was the Roughriders fans circa 2007-2017 I could see them victim shaming, but CFL fans as a whole I think are turning more into a group that values a strong league overall as much as their own team's success, especially post-Covid.

I’m really scared that this Kelly news is going to lead to a short sighted Tre Ford to Toronto trade that will haunt us for years.

I'd be pretty surprised unless the haul was something absurd. Ford is still pretty prominent in their limited advertising and MBT isn't a spring chicken here. Trading Ford followed by an MBT injury in training camp would basically end Chris Jones' career as anything more than a defensive specialist. I'd be pretty surprised if he left himself that exposed going into a do or die season.
