Okay I'm liking this. Not the player he once was but the squad for this season is looking solid so far unlike the previous ones.

Props to Renard for this get.

Saw Josef on Rene Levesque a few years ago, we spoke a few minutes, very cool down to earth guy.

Martinez is 30 and very banged up, but he sure has scored a lot of goals in the MLS and he knows the league inside and out. We probably will have to micro manage his work load to make sure he's healthy in the long run, but he could be a pretty big get . He's a bit of a nut though, hopefully he doesn't turn into a negative in the locker room.

Martinez isn't the same as the player who was in Atlanta years ago. But his signing as well as spending $4M in total transfer money for Iankov and Coccaro does indicate to me that CFMTL does have more ambitions this year. They didn't just go get young players with the goal to sell them off after a year or two.

I'm sure that's still part of their mission. But they acquired 28-year olds Raheem and Ruan. They just paid for a transfer and signed 26-year old Coccaro. And now they're looking to bring in 30-year old Martinez.

Iankov is 23 years old, but the rest of their off-season acquisitions are 26 or older.

IMFC is spending because, well they finally sold tickets.

While I've posted in the past about signing him, most people disagreed. He's broken down by a whole lot. Unless he eanrs less than most our forwards, I'm not sure about this one. At least he was healthy last season.

If we sign him, Toye has to leave (at the very least)

To me it's a repeat of Kamara. MLS vet, probably good bang for buck. Proven goal scorer. Can't go wrong as long as you negotiate the terms properly.

Don't forget Breza is 25 and Sosa is 22. Both may become permanent transfers too

I remember there was a rumor not long ago that Sunusi was gonna either be loaned or transferred to a team in Nigeria.

They sold plenty last season and the spending was low.
Yes and no, season tickets are guaranteed money. Last year, they started selling more during the season. That cash flow matters.

I'm thinking this may be the first year where they break even.

Depth. It's called depth. Whether it's Canadian Championship, Leagues Cup, international duty, or injury, this means that we at least have some sort of positivity coming off the bench and no longer need to rely on jabronies like Offor, Toye, Hamdi, Miljevic, etc....

Having said that, if I'm Choiniere, Duke, Saliba, Zouhir and even Vilsaint, I may not be too happy about this. Saliba got a lot of playing time last year and showed enough that he will still be in the teams plans. Vilsaint and Zouhir are still relatively unknown in terms of MLS playing time but at the same time, there won't be as much pressure to put them in before they're ready.

And lastly, I really hope this means Piette is on his way out the door to the CPL where he belongs. We have enough options at 6 though if they sell Wanyama that may be different.

Maybe I'm misremembering it but wasn't last year their best year in terms of season tickets sold (before this offseason)? Ah, it doesn't matter. I'm just glad to see them put a pallatable product on the field.

Having Coccaro/Sunusi playing with Martinez/Toye makes total sense. This mercato has made tons of sense.

Hopefully Iankov is Djordje 2.0 and hopefully Duke is Torres 2.0

Offor will be loaned to Europe again.
