For a rental, I agree but if it's for a long term piece, why not. While I think this is a playoff team, there is no way they should be buyers for a big piece.

Or make it clear there’s no worry about him clearing waivers.Maybe the club was brutally honest with him and said that they will continue to bring up Jet to be the goalie when Elvis needs a break and that if Tarasov hopes to play he needs to accept the assignment with the expectation that it will help him and the club in the future
Kesselring would be amazing but there's no way Utah trades, he's turned into an incredible young dman.Hearing Waddell allude to wanting to make a hockey trade with regards to Provorov in the event of a playoff race in his interviews with Marek and Scheig got me thinking.
There have previously been talks of Provorov to Utah. If Utah too want to push for the playoffs, would a deal based around Provorov for Kesselring be at all likely? Utah have Durzi and Marino on the right-hand side that should be back soon as well as Lamoureux coming up. If they could add and re-sign Provorov, that would strengthen their left-hand side significantly, while Columbus get a young up-and-coming RHD to play in the top 4 moving forward.
I suppose Utah don't really need to rush anything and, since Kesselring is cheap, can keep him on the third pair or as a 7D. But that's a trade that would intrigue me.
Well, didn't see the game but Tarasov's numbers were not good tonight stopping just 25 of 30. Ouch!

Id seriously kick the tires on Durzi in the offseason but that's unlikely too as he just signed a deal there.
I wonder what the Islanders would want for Dobson.
If only we didn’t panic with Jiricek and could have used him as a trade piece.
Durzi would have been great if we didnt sign Severson. Dobson has great analytics and would be another top dman who could help out Z. He'd excel in Evason's system but also would cost a lot.Durzi is the kind of offensive D that we don't seem to have the minutes available for. And I hear much the same about Dobson, that he's the offensive guy and not so reliable defensively.
I think I'd feel quite satisfied going into next year if Waddell managed to fill only one of the two roster spots with a right type of defensive dman. That and and better goaltending should make a difference in goals against. Acquiring just one veteran D would be less risky cap-wise, giving them flexibility to do changes if some of the pairs or individuals don't seem to work out eventually. It would also allow Hunt/Svozil/whoever to make the jump from AHL to NHL if any of them appear to be NHL-ready.Let’s assume we retiring Fabbro so that solves the pair with Werenski.
We need a steady vet to man then second pair with Mateychuk and we need a reliable stay-home guy on the third pair with Severson.
Meh, I think we got a pretty good return for him. Hunt has some potential to be that solid two way guy that we need. If we end up dumping Provorov I could see him stealing a spot out of camp. Gudbranson will be back next season as well which should add some grit. I still think we need another body or two for injuries. As JJ should not be on this roster next season. If only we didn’t panic with Jiricek and could have used him as a trade piece.
People throwing Brindley’s name around as an add-in on trades have me punching air rn
I actually think Guddy would be the perfect partner for Mateychuk short term. Only problem is that means one of Gundbranson or Severson would be 2nd pair.I think I'd feel quite satisfied going into next year if Waddell managed to fill only one of the two roster spots with a right type of defensive dman. There could be at least two good ways imo to construct the bottom-4 D for next season:
#1 (this may include buying out or trading Gudbranson):
Mateychuk - Veteran RD
Christiansen/Hunt/Svozil - Severson
#2:
Veteran LD - Severson
Mateychuk - Gudbranson
Analytically and eye test wise he's miles better defensively than both those players. This is also his breakout year, we're not talking about a multi year veteran. He'd be a serious welcome addition to this team, not that I imagine Utah would ever trade him.For those discussing Kesselring, ask do you want a hybrid Severson - Boqvist? Because that's what he is. He drives me nuts every game and he belongs on the third pair if/ when we get Marino and Durzi back in Utah.
He has a better shot and takes it to the net well but gawd the turnovers in the slot or behind our own net are awful. Third pair is where he belongs after coming into the season as the expected 7th man.
That Utah D corps has been so ravaged that Maatta is playing top pair (and is a godsend) and Cole (who is cooked) is second pair. Guys like Kolychonuk have no business in the NHL or are bottom pair like Valamaki
I have doubts about their ability to do controlled exits vs aggressive forechecks this year but as long as Mateychuk is up with CBJ it's certainly worth trying it out. When was Gud supposed to come back again?I actually think Guddy would be the perfect partner for Mateychuk short term. Only problem is that means one of Gundbranson or Severson would be 2nd pair.
One idea for next years defence:
Sign a good veteran LD like Olli Määttä who plays well defensively and takes a main PK role here maybe with Gudbranson. And also keep Fabbro, obviously.
2025-26
First pair: Werenski - Fabbro
And the other pairs you can flip either way Määttä-Severson and Mateychuk-Gudbranson or if it works Mateychuk-Severson and Määttä-Gudbranson.
And there is also option to play like Määttä-Mateychuk if they want to sit Severson yet again.
Hunt or Christiansen is the 7th defenceman.
This is Olli Määttä:
I know that this doesnt solve who playes with Mateychuk long term, but we are kind of stuck with Severson so one thing at a time.
I agree, definitely would have liked to see KJ, LDBB, and JVR together for longer. With how often we break pucks out with passes up the wall I prefer LDBB at center in this system so I am glad he is at least in the middle, but swapping Cole and LDBB would make the middle six look more harmonious in my opinion.Looks to me like Luca has earned the right to stay, not sure who that bumps where but I'd much rather have LDBB centering KJ with Sillinger Centering Fantilli on the third line or maybe put LDBB on the wing when Monahan gets back. Good problem to have.
Sillinger-Fantilli-Chinakhov: Fantilli is turning a corner lately with center play lately, and if Sillinger and him are on a line I prefer Fantilli in the middle since Sillinger is a little stouter, and Fantilli is faster. I would like for them to use Sillinger on the wing more in this system because of his strength, wingers can afford to be a bit slower footed if they are jacked enough under Evason.
