Defense looks good, can't wait until we see 11-7 next game and the coaching staff continues to screw up something pretty simple
I expect this to happen. Waddell has very frequently stated his intent to take this course, and I think the market conditions will allow for it.That or we go and make a big splash this summer via trade and or FA.
I think we need our whole team to tighten up the D. Consistency on offense would be great but I don't believe the O is a major concern.I know we've been having some success with who we have, but man do we ever need some help in the offensive side of the lineup.
We really gotta hope that Chinny can stay healthy and kids like LDBB, Brindley and Maletesta are ready to make that next step soon.

Well, like major will point out, this is exactly what we knew about Severson coming in. NJ fans very pretty adamant that "he's good but then he will f* up the game with a stupid mistake". If there's a common thread in his mistakes, maybe somebody smart could figure out some simple rule he could try to follow in those situations, something that works in our system. That's probably doable. But gaining more awareness or other actual improvement, that's probably much harder to obtain...I wonder if Severson would benefit from seeing a sports psychologist, or alerting his physical preparation a la Werenski. He is a very skilled player and is not even consistently making mental mistakes, they seem sporadic enough to perhaps be an issue that just "clicks" one day from some change of approach or something.
It is possible he may lack talent in terms of the mental side of hockey though. Making decisions in the flow any game comes far easier to some (Voronkov is gifted here imo) than others, but he does make (what seem like to me, a guy who uses rental skates when he hits the rink bi-yearly) smart plays pretty often.
This dude is 30 years old.
Anyway, his contract is aging exactly as I thought it would the moment pen hit paper. Well done, Jarmo.
Severson is at least taking it well. Remember the last high priced guy we benched a game? Didn't go so well. Coach hit the nail on the head though. We all remember the massive brain farts but Severson is pretty good alot of the time. More than we give him credit for. Seems to try to do too much in the defensive zone. Backhand passes out of the corner to our own slot is never a good idea. Take the easy play. Dumb it down.
I'm thinking long term. The depth we added this year are very much temporary bodies in the system.I think we need our whole team to tighten up the D. Consistency on offense would be great but I don't believe the O is a major concern.
I didn't necessarily mean for this year, just moving forward beyond this year, we have a great core but those depth pieces are arguably just as important. Like you said we should basically be expecting 1-5(offense and defense)guys out at any one time. Some of those guys are filling that role nicely, but beyond this year I don't put much faith into most of them. The JVR, ZAR and Leblanc just feel like cap hits to get us where we need to be and I don't see being with the team beyond this year, same with Kuraly. I think he's falling off and will be replaced sooner rather than later and who knows what will happen with Pyythia. Hopefully Danforth can stay healthy but with his age you have to assume it's not going to magically get better. So that's basically the entire bottom 6 that needs replaced this off-season. They all have expiring contracts and it'll be an easy way for Waddell to put his stamp on the roster. There is probably going to be an injury or two to some top 9 forwards even after Chinny and Jens come back.
A Nyquist type add would make a huge difference, I don't even think we need a big splash or huge trade to make our forward group lethal. The top line has been great. Go trade for the next Nyquist (or the original one, he could be had for a pick right now).

The way I see it we need a combination of those young guys taking the next step to fill one or two of those holes sometime next season and then we'll need to sign or trade for a few more to fill the others.
A 6 million dollar 3rd pairing dman who cant be trusted in pressure situations. Going to be a real brutal one in a couple of years. Luckily this team has cap so it honestly doesnt matter but come a couple years from now, its going to be ugly. This dude is 30 years old.

Q&A: Canucks GM Patrik Allvin expects more from top players in 2025
In 2024, the Canucks have given their fans much to be thankful for — but, they've also failed many nights to play to their standard. Iain MacIntyre sits down with GM Patrik Allvin to discuss why the team has struggled with consistency and reflect on the season thus far.www.sportsnet.ca
This is absolutely blowing up in Vancouver right now by the way.
Looks like Pettersson is available
Allvin went on blast basically, Not sure what you guys would offer, or how seriously you would be interested, He would obviously need a Haul.
But, just thought I would share and get your guys opinions!
Not everyday a 90+ Center with great Defensive abilities becomes available.
Thoughts?
Fair enough!I can see some desperate clubs jumping on the chance to get a player of that caliber, but for the Jackets, the $11.6m for an inconsistent moody player is just needless risk. We have a good thing building right now and don't need to gamble like that.
I'd love to see Columbus land Pettersson. Though I suspect a team like Carolina would once again offer Necas+ and I don't see Columbus topping that. A package from Columbus would be futures-oriented. If I'm allowed to spitball a first offer base: CBJ's 1st (top 5 protected), Provorov (50 % retained) and Sillinger? That won't do it, I understand, but I personally don't see Columbus offering up a guy like Kent Johnson at the moment.Q&A: Canucks GM Patrik Allvin expects more from top players in 2025
