Melvin Strahl is a great story, if I remember right he was pretty much a total unknown when drafted (5th rd).

Oiva Keskinen 2+0 today in a 6-2 victory for his team. He's now up to 7+10 on the season, 24 games played. He's #39 in scoring league wide, +2 (but admittedly on a good team, Tappara is #3 right now and has won championships in recent years). I haven't watched him play but stats and highlights look good. Notably Lenni Hämeenaho (NJ) is #19 with 23 GP, 11G 10A, that's probably a reasonable comp. Former NHL players: #5 Kristian Vesalainen 25 GP, 12G 15A, #4 Iiro Pakarinen 23 GP, 17G 14A and #1 Jori Lehterä 25 GP, 6G 30A - they're the first line for HIFK and tearing it up.

Here's the goals, first one is a pretty impressive top shelf shot on a breakaway. Annoyingly the Twitter video doesn't show how Keskinen circles in the d-zone to gain good speed, skate up with a purpose and then get that pass right on the tape to break him all alone. I'd love to know if that's a set play or if he just recognized who the d-man getting the puck was (Andrej Sustr who played 361 NHL games). There's a better vid on the official website.

Second goal an easy tap-in:

I was glancing back at the HFCBJ 2024 Summer Prospect Rankings: Final Top 20 and I think there would already be some big movement around a few players. Dumais drops big time from #6 and Luca Marelli jumps from #18 into the top ten. Melvin Strahl not only didn't make the top twenty but not even an "honorable mention" (21-24) or "other's receiving add votes" (25-30). Nope, he got no love falling into the trash bin with OJB-H, Hresechuk, LaLonde and Rysavy. My guess is he would at least get an honorable mention now if not slide into the back five of the top twenty.

Well, that's how these things go. It's why we make a point of revisiting past rankings each year as well.

I unfortunately think dumais is cooked. I’m sure he’ll play again but I don’t think he’ll ever be the same player

After a couple of very rough outings, Ivanov has bounced back with two stronger performances stopping 55 of 60 shots. He's 30th in Save Percentage at .909 and 30+ in GAA at 2.97. Ouch. Last year his Save Percentage was twenty points higher and his GAA was thirty points lower. No idea if his new team is just that much worse than last year's team or if he is struggling.

Wasn't Dumais expected to return in January or something? So we could look forward to seeing both Lindstrom and Dumais back after the New Year?

Obviously. But January was when he was expected to return, correct?

According to this article (which is based from Portys reporting) then yes you’re right.

But it says “return to the ice.” Not return to action. So my assumption is when he returns he’s just going to be getting his legs under him and maybe some conditioning before actually returning to play.

There’s that September article but there is also this November Article which says Prospect winger Jordan Dumais is traveling to Columbus this week to meet with Blue Jackets team doctors. It’s anticipated Dumais will need a second hernia surgery before he’s cleared to resume skating, but there’s still hope he’ll be able to play at some point this season. So I really wouldn’t bank on January. Definitely thought he’d have it in September. Not push it off for two months.

Now 8th in Save Percentage at .911 and tops in GAA at 2.05. He seems to be transitioning to North American hockey just fine. Maybe we have a sleeper.

Dumais? Who knows. As for Lindstrom, I'd be happy if he's back with his junior team by the playoffs for them.
I believe I saw that Lindstrom will only need a month after his surgery to get skating again? (Could be misremembering) So I would imagine by the new year he should be close to getting back to Jrs.

Ivanov stops 34 of 36 in a 2-1 loss. His season numbers continue to hover at the bottom of the KHL. Hoping he comes to the US next year so we can watch him up close and personal.

It was a month of basically no activity beyond walking and moving. At that point he would start to ramp up activity. Based on how they handled the original path (slow to try to get to 100%) I would be shocked if he's back to Jr.s any time before March
