Prospect Info: CBJ Prospect Thread XI

pronman did his 2023 redraft and a couple CBJ notes:
  • fantilli: #2 overall (+1 from draft slot), in the "elite player" tier with bedard
  • brindley: #20 overall (+14 from draft slot), in "middle of lineup" tier
  • keskinen: #66 overall (+128 from draft slot), in "has a chance to play NHL games" tier

huge jump for keskinen. no love for pinelli or whitelaw but that's consistent with the CBJ pipeline list from a couple months back, as pronman didn't rank them there either (wheeler likes both players).

I was shocked today reading The Athletic’s Pronman 2022 redraft. Mateychuk, who was drafted at 12, was slotted at 27 in the redraft. Just as interesting was that he kept Jiricek slotted 6th where drafted.

I can’t believe he regards Mateychuk so low as he’s actually surpassed his performance since being drafted. I’m left shaking my head. My own view is that Mateychuk will be the better Blue Jacket of the aforementioned two.

He must have seen his D+1 stats and decided there's something wrong...

See bolded. I'm pretty sure he also still has Chinakhov rated as "he might get the chance to play NHL games".

Marrelli has matched his goal total from last season just 10 games in
I’m super high on Marrelli. I’m not surprised he’s doing this well to start off this year. Defensemen with as many points as he had in their draft years are some of my favorite prospects. He had a pretty high assist ratio though, so it’s nice to see him improving his goal numbers so far.

He has size and seemingly pretty good offensive ability. I think he’ll be an NHL player for sure. But I know little about his defensive abilities, so maybe he’s limited there.

prediction time.

so what are we thinking… as of right now, do we think evan gardner or ivanov has higher potential/who will play more games in a jackets uniform?

Ivanov imo has the better potential, but Gardner seems like a very sound goaltender in his own right. Ivanov is putting up impressive numbers on what seems (correct me if I'm wrong) to be a perpetual shit team in the KHL while only being 20yo. I'd be curious to see how he looks in front of an actual NHL D...which hopefully by the time he's able to come over, we'll have.

Michigan State? Not Michigan? Do we even allow that around here?

Not sure who the last MSU guy would be, Corey Tropp?

On another note, I was hoping we would get more from Whitelaw. Kind of underwhelming.

speaking of whitelaw, he was healthy scratched his last game. yikes
6 minor penalties in his first 5 games with michigan

2 assists for Marrelli tonight. A team with that many first rounders should be able to put more wins together, especially now that Ritchie is coming back from Colorado. Anyways Marrelli looks great, like he could have been drafted in round 1 too.
AP said on his most recent podcast that Scott Wheeler is going to be doing an article on The Athletic about Marelli soon.
