"Aidan Hreschuk’s freshman year came to a close with Boston College’s loss to Northeastern. I felt that Hreschuk struggled early on in the year but got better as the season went along, eventually cementing his role on the second pairing for the Eagles. Hreschuk’s offensive numbers don’t pop, but I like his work ethic and physical play. I feel that his biggest area of growth this year was in the defensive zone. I saw Hreschuk make fewer mistakes and position himself in shooting and passing lanes, limiting offensive chances. His pesky style of play also lead to some drawn penalties, which is nice to see. I’m still not sure of Hreschuk’s potential, but I like the pick more now that I’ve watched him play a bit."

Last game of the regular season for Mikael Pyyhtiä , 1g 1a.

That makes it 21g 14a , 35 points in 56 games.

Pretty dang good , considering that he probably scored 20 out of his 21 goals in the last 25 games.

Finished only 5 goals behind the goal scoring lead for the season.

What's next for him - do we know or have reason to suspect anything in particular?

Hopefully another year or two in the Liiga where he rounds out his game before coming over to NA.

I'm curious, we've got so many Finnish fans but they never talk about Pyyhtia, one of the top goal scorers in the Liiga. Is he still treated like an afterthought there?

So I was over on the Preds board because, y'know, #2 team, and golly gosh darn, what did I see but this:

How fascinating. And here I was told that such things simply do not happen, particularly at SKA (who holds Askarov's rights through this season). I wonder if there's any other prospects we know of note who haven't signed with SKA long-term and who are hoping to come here to North America next year and who may or may not have been subject to this sort of nonsense as a result.

That or it's a made up complaint that both Poile is doing and a lot of Jackets fans are doing.

I really don't know the truth but Marchenko is not dominating in any sense, he's not tearing down the VHL right now so you can't say its obvious he should be playing above the top wingers for SKA. Same with Askarov, he has much worse numbers at every level compared to the starter for SKA.

The Jackets fans saying that sort of thing are the ones who are actually watching SKA games.

From my POV, you’re being harsh.

Sorry, like I said I'm not asserting any particular theory, just saying that you can make a credible case that SKA has better players to give that ice time to.

Michigan wins today and will advance to the frozen 4. Meaning the closest we will see Kent Johnson possibly sign is next Friday, and furthest being next Sunday.

Having watched him a very very small amount this year (Olympics and now frozen four) I have to say I am not blown away. I think he’ll be here as soon as possible but I think I might leave him another year at Michigan if it were me deciding

Did Kent play today?

I put the third period of the Michigan game on and didn't notice him at all.

It felt like they were pulling minutes from most of the top line thinking they had it in the bag going into the third. Until Quinnipiac scored the 3rd goal I didn't see him much.

The frozen four is April 7-9.

I think he will be better as a center, LW is not his natural position.

I watched a lot of the game yesterday. Michigan took their foot off the gas and Quinnipiac almost embarrassed them. I wasn't impressed with any of Michigans top players yesterday (Hughes played the best in my eyes). The heart and soul guys won that game for them,

Johnson did not display one characteristic resembling a 5th overall pick, I've seen a few of his games now and I have yet to see him play one game where I went wow this guy is going to be a game changer for this team. I see a promising player with a ton of skill that can skate pretty well. What I don't see is someone who is dominating games with his puck possession and playmaking skills or scoring. He's also very thin and gets pushed around a lot. Yet some are saying he may be on the team next season (including our GM).

I know it's a small sample size but I'm not liking what I see. I'm looking for a lot more from a prospect drafted that high. He should stay at Michigan next year and play center for a year. If Michigan won't guarantee him playing center then sign him and let him play in Cleveland. He needs time to develop and get much stronger.

I'm slightly more confident in KJ, just a bit. He does some subtle things to draw attention and make space for teammates. I can see him being an effective playmaker without looking dominant.

But I agree that he's still got a lot to learn. And I don't like using the Columbus NHL squad as a space for kids to take their lumps. We've got enough youth as is and adding Marchenko and KJ at the same time (two soft wingers) is going to hurt the team in some areas. Cleveland or Michigan might be best. I'm only saying might because five months in the gym might make a big difference for the kid and I can't rule out him taking a big step.

The best he’s looked this year IMO is when he played for team Canada at the Olympics.

I appreciate you responding with the pretty graph and stats chart but the chart and someones tweet isn't going to change my mind. I'm sure others are interested in the charts/graphs and they are probably pretty useful to some. But not so much for me. I've been watching and playing hockey since 1966. I may not be versed in what a players (X#YZ%n number) is but I have seen a wealth of games in my lifetime and I think I can guestimate how good a player is/may be and what type of an impact said player might have on the team without having to rely on some fancy charts to make my assessment. My issue with these charts/graphs is that they don't watch the games and some of the numbers don't make sense at times. So I find them unreliable and not for me. This isn't meant as a criticism of you posting advanced stats or number crunching graphs and stuff like that or of others that use/find them useful. They are just not for me.

Also I mentioned in my post that I have not seen a lot of KJs games (probably around ten or so partial/full games). But I've seen enough of him to form an opinion at this point in time so it's not from just a few video highlights of his best plays.

I have high hopes for this player, maybe too high. I have seen some pretty plays and some nice goals from him but I will stand by the rest of what I said in my post.

He needs more development time. Can he play in the NHL? Of course he can but my main issue becomes is he really NHL ready or is Jarmo just gonna do a Sillinger with him. I'm pretty sure Jarmo kind of answered that question at the post trade deadline presser and I can't say I agree with him.

I watch him every game and I disagree with you. Not sure if you think I just look at the charts or not…

The chart was supporting information, for people who do not get to watch every game.

I agree though that they should not rush him.

You've been pumping his tires so hard since a little after they drafted him that I thought he might explode by now. I'm not suprised you disagree with me but the only thing you can be disagreeing with is that you think he's a superstar and he's mostly ready right now and I don't.

Otherwise you're just splitting hairs defending him when we pretty much agree on this players potential.

I didn’t ever say he was a superstar or ready at this point in time. I’m fact I’ve always said the opposite.

I just disagree in the fact that I think he is impacting games right now, when you might not see it.

I started “pumping his tires” when people on here said he was not a blue chip prospect, which is wrong IMO.

Again I’m also on record for saying the best player on that team is Brisson.

You can not trust the stats, I don’t really care, but I’ll at least show you them.
