People thinking that because they see it as a major issue to take into consideration for a trade that means GMs and front office staff will also see it that way, even though that doesn’t appear to be the case
I would instead posit that they see it as a mitigatable issue. Those sorts of calculations go into considerations of a trade all the time. This guy has a high cap hit. This guy doesn't play defense. This guy caused an off-ice incident. It's significant but not fatal.

I wonder if the flyers gamble on Petersen as a reclamation project if the rumors about Hart are true. Could work out well for them if he regains his form. They don’t have much to lose if they’re truly rebuilding.

They aren’t going to be a contender but they sure as hell weren’t as bad as their placing shows.

& they’ll be adding players to that roster, get internal growth and upgraded coaching.

Expecting them to be a bottom5 team next year is silly talk
That's a low bar.

They want to be a playoff team.

There's nothing stopping them from trading a player off their active roster while in the SCF. But then they wouldn't have the guy they traded, and the guy they acquired couldn't play for them in any playoff games this season, because it's after the trade deadline.

If Vegas wanted Provorov they could tell Briere that they would give him more than the Columbus/LA package once the Finals ended. And if Briere believed that offer was solid, he would have waited and traded Provorov to Vegas.

Silly post.

Not to mention its kind of unfair to make the other 30 teams wait until the finals are over. Some of these teams haven't played games 2 months, you can only sit around & wait for so long.

They believe in the positional depth. If they are able to get him to a point where they can move him later on, it’s a bonus. A buyout next year, unlike this year, is not prohibitive. Any result is acceptable.

Of course they do.

You said they won’t improve and they were 2nd worst team in the league.

So do they have a chance at improving or not?

It’s not even draft and they’ve replaced Larsen with Babcock and AHL Dman with Provorov.

They’ll make more moves without sacrifing the future

Andrew Peeke playing top pairing minutes is a recipe for another lottery pick
Who says he's getting top pairing minutes, just because he's paired with Z doesn't mean he's going to get the 26 minutes/night that Z gets. He'll get 18-22 minutes a night. I imagine he'll get 5v5 and some PK time.

Why is LA giving up picks to retain salary and take on 2 prospects who likely won't see the NHL?
They gained about what they signed Gavrikov for in cap space for this season and about 3 mil more next season
his answer.... Plus a little more below
Los Angeles didn’t take on any prospects.

Connauton is a 33 year old fringe NHL veteran and Hodgson is a 27 year old AHL/ECHL veteran that had his cup of tea and now should return to the depths from which he came.

Possible theories...
There is a contract limit. I don't know if Philly is up against it. This trade was 2 in and now 3 out for Philly.
The Kings may have seen something in these guys in a need for Ontario? But these guys very likely aren't making the Kings

That's a great mindset, but Provorov? Especially Provorov with only 2 years left?

Why not just sign Gavrikov long term? Surely CLB's 1st could have gotten a better player. Maybe Babs loves him.

He wouldn’t sign.

2 years is ideal for top4 LD& it’s LA’s 1st

Oh I thought it was CLBs, that's what was reported on the podcast I heard about it from. LAK's 1st is not as bad, but I still don't like spending it on Provorov.

They were always going to spend it on a veteran.

So they traded Gavrikov for younger, cheaper player with more term

You're cool with flying through this competitive window with Copley as #1??? Is Durzi the odd man out on D now?
I just put Copley there because he is the only goalie on the team. They can go after a cheap goalie for this season and figure out what they need to do next offseason. They aren't a competitive team right now. They are a bubble team that needs to fill some holes but need to wait until next offseason when their cap opens up. Durzi is up in the air right now. They could use him on the 3rd pairing and leave the kids in the AHL for a year or move him to open a spot for Clarke/Spence. If they move him it should be for a late 1st or 2nd and prospect or a comparable LHD with size.

This should have been the first post..thanks...I don't think trade threads should be made until all the details are known...it's annoying going through pages and pages to find out the details, and see the responses that follow.

As odd as this sounds, I wish that they had played him in the playoffs.

Copely SAVED the Kings season last year

Pre Copely they were 13-14

Copely was 35-30 . 35-24-6 if you believe in the cheater point.
For whatever reason, the team plays well in front of him

saved me
I remember when the Isles played the Flyers in the bubble and a lot of Flyers fans said not a single Isles defender would make the Flyers top 4. 3 years later and most of their defense core from that team has unceremoniously been shown the door.

kings get cap space. How they moved out a goalie on that contract is impressive. They freed up over 5mill in cap space and it only cost them a 2nd, walker and Grans. They kept 30% of Pos contract but getting out from under that goalies contract? I wish Holland was that creative
Walker is not an asset in this deal, he is a cap dump as he’s overpaid by like +150%. Philly got paid to take him but can maybe do something with him like trade him for another future if they retain.

I really like to see that 3 GM's were able to think outside the box here.

Curious to see what is next for CBJ. Still some holes at Center and Goaltending if they really want to make a push next year.
All three of these teams have each other on speed dial. Kings did a deal for Richards and “sent” Philly Hextall for their FO. Philly traded Carter and Umberger to CBJ, Kings got Carter, Gaborik, Gav and Korpisalo from CBJ, etc.
