Okay... You should look at the whole 2007 draft and the first round before you say something like that. That was the worst draft in a long long time, and guess what? The blues 3 picks are ALL in the NHL, with one (Perron), being regarded as a top 5-8 selection in the ENTIRE draft.

To call it a poor performance by him and his draft crew is incredibly wrong

Being the GM of the Blue Jackets at this time is a perfect opportunity for any new GM to prove themselves. Especially with all the up and coming kids and 3 draft picks in a draft like 2013

He's talk garbage. Also add in the Ottawa draft record which is ridic.

You guys should really buy your season's tickets now if you don't already have them. Five years from now this is going to be one of the better young teams in the NHL. If only it was possible to buy shares in that club.

I like JD's sense of urgency. Proactive instead of reactive. And how can I not be excited about a GM with a name of Jarmo.

What if it was Jarmo Myllys, and he GM'd like he played for the North Stars and Sharks?

Got your pound of flesh and now you want the blood too?

Next head on the block!!!

Off with their heads!!!

Easy there. For the record, I liked Howsen. I never called for his head. I just asked a question. McFarland is the last of the originals. Wondered aloud why he's been spared multiple rounds of firings and regime changes, that's all.

Simmer down, are you his mom, or something?

The only head I've called for is Mike Todd's, and I stand by that.

Just seems to be an awful lot of slash and burn going around. Maybe it was just the phrase, how does Howsen still have a job? That's all you read on so many blogs when ever the CBJ came up. Just never want to see a man lose his job. And yes I know he's in a public position so it goes with the territory. Too much joy in his going for my taste.

My apologies if you construed as an over reaction. If he needs to go then, then JK will make that decision. He is now GM of the team I am a fan of, and that's the way it will be.

No I'm not his mother, but old enough to be his father.

So ...

Been away from the boards for a few days, apparently something happened?

Kidding, naturally. Simply put, couldn't be more excited to see Jarmo Kekalainen take over. His scouting prowess is on an elite level, and with three first round picks in a very deep draft, he'll get off to a great start this summer.

Should be fun!

I agree. I like Howsen, he's a good man. I am not part of the neon green tee crowd, either. It's that bloodlust you refer to that soured me to that movement.

Actually it was McFarland he asked about.

It was the similarity of the phrase "how does (Howson/McFarland still have a job)

This is the last I am going to say on it. This is what I posted on my facebook page.

As most of you know, I am a die hard Blue Jackets fan. The org finally fired Scott Howson. While I don't like anyone to be fired, at his level there needs to be accountability. He was finally held accountable.

I am happy for the franchise that Howson is no longer in a position of power.

^^ Win some, lose some. The bigger picture is what counts. I wonder if Ian Cole will ever be NHLer.

Playing some good hockey for the Blues right now. Looks like he's secured a spot and is basically the Blues' 4th d-man. Getting tons of even-strength time against significant competition.

As to the whole topic, Jarmo definitely has to prove himself, and I think he gets a little overhyped as a draft guru, but he's still very good. Before Armstrong took over, Jarmo was the talent evaluator for Blues' trades, while Pleau did all of the numbers and contracts. So he had a part in the Boyes trade, the Steen & Colaiacovo trade, and acquiring Chris Mason and D'Agostini, all of which were definite gains.
Unfortunately, if you look at the moves made immediately after Armstrong took the helm, you can see a far more aggressive approach that really shaped the Blues at least as much as Jarmo's drafting did. The way in which Kekalainen now has to prove himself is if he can make similar trades for the Jackets.

But one must also remember that Jarmo was not the guy during that time, and would still have to operate at the discretion of either Pleau, or Armstrong. To say that Armstrong came in and took a more aggressive stance doesn't really shed a bad light on Jarmo. That would be more of a reflection of how Pleau operated.

Now is the time when Jarmo will show what kind of GM abilities he has since he is the guy now. By all accounts he did a great job in Finland. Now we will find out how well he can do in the best league in the world. He has his work cut out for him with this train wreck.

Looking at your post again, maybe that is what you meant. When you threw the word "unfortunately" in there it makes it sound like you are meaning unfortunately for Jarmo.
