If this has been posted it needs to be posted twice:

The Blue Jackets struggles through the years can be directly tied to poor management and evaluative decisions by the front office and after the failures of last season -- and the team's struggles to start the year in 2013 -- created the need for a change in culture in Columbus. Kekäläinen is the next step in that change, which began with the hiring of Davidson, and begins the journey for the Blue Jackets in their quest to climb out of long-term obscurity.

Read it twice or three times, just read it.

Worse:
- Scott Lachance
- Luke Richardson
- Derrick Walser (if only because he was always the go-to callup guy)

If we're going by re-signings, the absolutely idiotic re-signing of Duvie Westcott is probably at the top of the list.
I'll give you Duvie probably, but his concussion was what changed him. The others, we didnt end up paying for 6 years after the last time they played for us. Duvie's was for a bit, but not at the cost of Commodore's

Quick question for you.

Back in the 1970s, the Baseball HOF decided that Negro League players would be eligible for induction if a special committee (Committee on Negro Baseball Leagues) selected them. In seven years, the committee elected nine men; they are Cool Papa Bell, Oscar Charleston, Martin Dihigo, Josh Gibson, Monte Irvin, Judy Johnson, Buck Leonard, Pop Lloyd, and Satchel Paige. After the 1977 election, the committee announced that it had done its job and disbanded. It refused to allow itself to be taken over by a different element, or to take actions that would serve to dilute what it had done. After all, these nine men are legends and are known to even casual baseball fans; the committee could have stuck around and then inducted several more, but they decided not to. It was a remarkable act of restraint that, in baseball terms, was right there with Cincinnatus and George Washington.

My question is, slightly over a year after a protest that demanded changes, what is the future of FANS with those changes actually taking place? Does it transition into an actual separate organization with a different mission, does it continue to serve as an unofficial watchdog of sorts, or does it simply cease to exist?

An interesting question, which was discussed at the outset and the answer can be found on the FANS website:

"We are not a fan club, a booster group, or a supporter's club. There are fine organizations already established for that purpose for Blue Jackets fans. Rather, we are a fan advocacy group."

Our goal was never to become the Jackets Backers or the ACA. That purpose is already well served.

A part of the mission statement was

"3. A commitment to honor the community and fans of Central Ohio from all of those involved in the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey franchise."

To the extent we do anything in the short term, I think it would be more along those lines--i.e. something by FANS to benefit the Columbus community or the community of Jackets fans in general.

Otherwise, we'll continue to function as a watchdog. And sometimes being a watchdog means taking a nap in front of your owner's fireplace unless and until you are needed.

Wright's been seen as a Howson guy. Looks like he's doing whatever he can as quick as he can to help people forget that.

Does this board complain if Paul Castron is kept on as director of scouting? He's been around since the beginning.

Puck-Rakers says him and Kekalainen are good friends.

I hope no one is foolish enough to believe that the protest rally at nationwide had anything to do with what is going on now. The organization figured out on its own that priest wasn't what we needed. If Howson being fired were a direct result of the rally, it would have happened a long time ago.

If I go outside and do a rain dance in July and it finally rains in September, I'm not going to take credit.

Commence replying telling me how the protest group is far more important than they really are.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

When do the trades start? Do they not have phones in Finland?

If I were him, I'd be worried either way... He's a guy I can see thats primed to be replaced simply because his title. Howson's downfall started when he essentially kept all of MacLean's cronies on the payroll and refused to clean out Operations when he was hired. I'd imagine Jarmo's connections in the hockey world are much deeper than Howson's were when he was hired here.

I think we'll see alot of turnover in the development/scouting ranks. Jarmo isn't going to risk his career on the same guys that Scott relied on. Tyler has a hell of a sales job to do.

IMO- Team, coaching, and front office personnel from any previous regime should be kept or fired depending on their capability, nothing more/less.

If The Finn thinks Wright and Castron are good for what they want to accomplish, keep'm. If not, send them on their way.

Better late than never.

Congrats on the hiring of Jarmo! I have great respect for him. Great drafter is exactly what you guys need and Jarmo sure is not some "old school" GM (not suggesting Howson is/was) who's afraid of "soft europeans" nor "russian factor".

I wouldn't be surprised if he would pick Nichushkin (if he likes him and is avaible) with some of your 1st round picks. Jarmo is hard working guy who likes other hard working guys so guys like Dubinsky will probably wear for BJ for long time.

I wish you guys best of luck and I apologize for my lousy english.

PS. I may have to start lurking on your boards from this point forward :naughty:

Yes we will still exist. Our mission statement can be found here:

http://www.jacketsfans.blogspot.com/p/mission-statement.html

One except from our mission statement that will probably directly answer that question is the following: "Our mission is on-going. It will not end simply with the removal of Mike Priest and Scott Howson. Firing failed leadership does not, in and of itself, cure the problem unless the management chosen to replace it is not substantially better.

If the goal of the franchise is to win the Stanley Cup on an annual basis, it is our purpose to make sure that those in the places of power stay fully focused on that goal. In addition, that they do so in a way which is befitting of the community and fans of Central Ohio, with honor and integrity."

Summer comes soon and the draft so not too many months left for Kekäläinen. It would be interesting to see in the upcoming draft how much Jarmo will trust Wright and Castron and the other scouts and how much he calls the shots by himself. CBJ please mic them and video tape them!
