OT: CBJ Board Other Sports Thread Part XII

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Tonight's the night...my Bryant Bulldogs take on the mighty Spartans of Michigan State. You big school fans don't get it, you are used to this being a yearly occurrence but for us small school alum this is maybe once a decade.
Or more.

The Falcons have appeared in four NCAA Tournaments. Their combined record is 1–5. Their drought of 55 years (as of 2025) is tied for the third longest active and fourth longest all time between tournament appearances.

That said, baskeball isn't really my thing anyways.

Yes, I also cheer for BGSU. I went to school there first and foremost.

Yeah, not a basketball fan...even March Madness. But as The Beach Boys always said "Be true to your school".

Bryant's got two players in the NFL, a Detroit Lion WR Tom Kennedy who spends most of his time on their practice squad and a pretty decent backup LB for the Bills "Buffalo Joe" Andreessen and one former Cleveland pitcher who is hoping to resurrect his career after serious arm issues James Karinchak. We do not have a history of excelling in the pro-sports field.

Our most famous alum was Earl Tupper, the creator of the Tupperware empire. He donated 300 acres where the current campus sits north of Providence (it's called the Tupper Campus) and our bulldog mascot is named Ironclad Tupper. I believe he is Ironclad Tupper II.

Oh...and "Coach" from Cheers :)

Whoo, the time of your post though. I can only imagine how cool of an experience it was.
Missed my 8AM workout class the next morning though.

A buddy from here in Ohio came with me to support my team, really appreciated it. Bryant sold out its allotment of seats but it was probably 90+ percent white and green (we are black and gold) no surprise. We had a really good meet-up in the downstairs of Southern Tier Brewery and thought our band and dancers/cheerleaders did a solid job and the players played their hearts out.

The top two Seniors Earl Timberlake and Rafael Pinzon. Felt for both.

Timberlake had a classic Timberlake game doing a little bit of everything while being the leader on the floor (14 Pts, 4 Rebs, 5 As, 1 Steal and 2 Blocks). When he came off with 3 minutes to play, the hugs for the coaches was emotional. He said he lost his love for basketball while playing at Miami and Memphis and found it again thanks to the coaches at Bryant.

Rafael Pinzon had a rough night. He led the team in scoring and he had a couple highlight reel three pointers but overall he struggled mightily all night (9 of 26 from the field and just 2 of 12 from three point land). You could see he was devastated that this was how he was going to end his stellar college career. The hugs he got as he came off were palpably emotional.

I was impressed with 6'11" Sophomore Keyshawn Mitchell. He only had seven points but pretty athletic moves and good shooting stroke for a big man. I hope he stays but I could see bigger programs being interested. Also wonder how long we can keep our coach Phil Martelli Jr (I guess his dad was a legendary St Joes coach also coaching some at Michigan).

In the pics: I like that the tippy top of Terminal Tower lit up is in the background behind the bus. Our seats were right where that guy wearing #23 was standing.
