You can't keep doing this and expect to re-sign guys even if you draft well. Hopefully we see some commitment to development and building soon rather than accumulation of "assets"

You all are crying like this because the Coyotes are only spending 50mil a year while they are rebuilding instead of 60?
They’ve been doing this for over a decade. Heck, they’ve already traded away several of the players that they drafted and developed from taking those LTIR contracts with picks and nothing has changed. They are a drain on the whole league and aren’t serious about playing competitively.

Fans of large, mostly Canadian teams that love to complain about the Coyotes existence are also the same fans that benefit the most from having somewhere to dump the horrible contracts their GM's love to sign.

I guess maybe you guys would just be happier if you had to buy out Shea Weber/Andrew Ladd/Bryan Little/Zack Kassian/Patrik Nemeth instead.

They currently have nine players on their roster making $900K or less this year which is insane. Heck their top paid dman now makes only $2.5M. They have almost double the salary tied up in LTIR than all their dmen and goalies combined with $19.923M on LTIR and about $11M on goalies and dmen.

They're not a drain to the league, they're a boon to the rest of the league. GM's know they can shovel their bad decisions to the desert. If the Coyotes didn't exist it would actually make it a harder on other teams....especially big market teams that are the most likely to make bad decisions spending in FA.

It's because the rebuild never ends. They just traded a 24 year old 1D on a bargain contract for a pitiful return because they weren't willing to take back any salary. They don't even spend to the cap floor, they find ways to game the system by trading for LTIR contracts to get them there. They are playing in a college arena. Just an embarrassment of a franchise on every level. Can't compete. Can't draw fans. Can't keep good players.

I mean, context is important. From what I've read, the Tempe vote in May (if it passes) will cost Meruelo $40M immediately, and then he'll have to kick in $600M+ throughout arena development.

Those expenditures are obviously much more crucial to the franchise than running up today's payroll, especially since the team is hoarding picks and rebuilding.

Still though, this utter clown show has spanned over a decade now, and even if the Tempe vote passes, it'll be another ~4 years before the new arena is functional.

And what are the odds that new arena has the same attendance issues GRA had, and the team remains cash-poor?

I just can't help but roll my eyes.

Well that's what needs to be done

No disrespect to AZ fans, but the ownership is a joke
They’ve got a privately financed arena to pay for. Money will be a bit tight. Winning doesn’t matter while they’re crashing on ASU’s couch.

This would put them at, what, $30M cap space used for injured players?
Chef’s kiss.
