I was at the game last night. The one player that stuck out to me was Lucic. He was completely ineffective, like he was skating in mud, and he mishandled every puck that came his way. Very disappointing.

Sorry the game didn't go your way... but I had such a great time! L.A. Live is fantastic (and so is Smashburger holy crap). It was such a thrill to see an NHL game in a different city for the first time. :)

And Fanpics... omg. WE NEED THIS FOR EVERY PRO SPORTS TEAM EVER.

I really feel like Brown has to explode at some point. He's the only player in the league with as many shots on goal as he has without a goal. It's maddening he hasn't scored yet, but the season is long.

I think the real issue is that Kopitar and Brown shouldn't play together. They both like to hold on to the puck, but don't have anyone on the inside to create scoring opportunities. It may be crazy to say, but I feel like our problems will be solved when King comes back . That top line doesn't need a play maker or anything, it needs someone who can create space for Gaborik, because he is incapable of creating space for himself. King is a big body who can win board battles and maintain possession. His offensive upside is limited, but we don't need that.

King-Kopi-Gabby
Lucic-Carter-Top Titty
Pearson-Shore/Weal-Brown
Clifford-Lewis-Weal/Shore/Nolan

That is a solid line up, lots of depth and size top through bottom. King has always had a knack for getting whatever line he's on going, hopefully when he comes back he can do it again. If Pearson starts showing a bit more, I also like him on the top line.

Whoa, wait a second. Carter's production is going to cool off? Isn't that the EXACT same criticism that's been levied against Kopitar, who disappears in December?

Kopitar goes into a coma in December/January. Carter's line was simply not going to continue producing at the rate they were, it's common sense. Teams started matching their top defenders against that line and Toffoli's shooting percentage is unsustainable. If you can't tell the difference between the two, I can't help you. Perhaps you could tell Kopi it's not Dec/Jan yet and he can wake the hell up

The Kings won 2 Cups with Kopitar and Brown on the same line. The entire run in 2012, and most, if not all, of 2014. The guy that was going to the inside to create scoring opportunities in 2014 was Gaborik. I doubt he scored more than 2 of his 14 playoff goals outside of 5 feet from the net.

Yeah, true, but right now Gaborik is floating and playing the perimeter. When you have 3 perimeter players, one of which can't hold on to the puck(Gabby), one of which can't skate without falling on his face(Brown), and one of which that never takes any risks and gets double teamed the instant he enters the Zone(Kopi), that line isn't going to score. Something's gotta give.

Edit: Also, side note that gaborik classically under performs or gets injured every other year after having a good season

I have a simpler explanation. Keep in mind I didn't watch yet, but

Is it possible that the team simply didn't have enough in the tank in the third after playing three games in four nights with travel, including a buttload of fights?

I mean, still sounds like we played well enough until the third...

I thought the Kings would struggle again with out Voynov, but Martinez, Muzzin, and McNabb have really stepped up this season. I thought Forbort really played solid, and deserves to play more games. If they only can get Gaborik, Pearson, Shore to chip in more, and Doughty to take more snap shots and less slap shots, may by he might actually hit the net.

14 goals in 26 playoff games; and one of the principal reasons we won one of our two Stanley Cup championships in the entire history of the existence of this team, for which I have suffered through most of 50 years of it.

The contract is more than worth that. 'Nuff said.

I disagree with you here. I don't think you pay a guy for what he has ALREADY done but what he can do for you in the coming years. If we only have one line that can produce points then how do you expect to make it to the playoffs where he can finally shine and score goals? He needs to produce in the regular season and so far he hasn't been doing that lately. I'm scared of having another Brown-like contract where he's way overpaid and it ties us up in the salary cap. I think we all love Kopi and he's a great two way center but he needs to put up more points if he wants to command 7-8 million a year.

Jackets fan in peace. Is Clifford ok? I didn't see the rest of the game (I forgot how rough these West Coast swings are lol) so I don't know if he played more but he looked a little dazed when he got up. As someone who has had many concussions myself I'd hate to hear he suffered any kind of trauma.

Fingers crossed - haven't read anything about a problem. I guess we'll see if he's in the lineup tomorrow

Seems like he was in the line rushes at practice per rosen so it couldn't have been too bad thankfully. That was a hell of a right though!

Got outshot 13-1 in the first 11 minutes of the third until BJ scored. They had a day off. The Kimgs have gone several games now with many points in the game where the D don't look fresh. Look, it's like this to me. DD could play 45 minutes a game, and manage to conserve energy in different parts of the ice and at different times. McNabb having similar minutes to DD leaves him tired out there. To be a high throttle team, we are going to have to reduce minutes for several of these guys, get others more time in places, etc., and have the D go hard every shift. There was nothing left in the tank on Monday night to make a push against Chicago as well. It's unusual in the NHL to see the team that is losing going into the third get so badly outshot. The team ahead tends to go into shut down mode. Quick isn't going to stop everything and steal tons of games. If we become a team that has no energy to come from behind, it's going to be a long season. IMO

What I thought was interesting last night is the PP minutes went to McBain instead of Ehrhoff. Could it be that DS is losing patience with CE? Taking a look at McBain in that role opens the door more for DF on the left side. DF can be used on PK, where I don't think DS likes McBain or Ehrhoff in that role. Also, gives DS the lefty righty thing. Thoughts?

What do you expect to say? Gaborik and Brown's contracts are awful.

The Kings are generally known for getting great deals out of younger players who become star players, but DL always seems to overpay for established players.

Toffoli and Carter (we inherited this contract) are underpaid.

Brown and Gaborik are vastly overpaid with term.

Look at the term for Brown, Gaborik, and Martinez.

Sadly, I think Clifford might be expendable soon. King is coming back and Mersh is in the wings. If Lucic re-signs, who goes? Clifford and his 1.6 million.

Brown, Lucic, Pearson, King will be the top 4 LW'ers.

Welcome to success. When you win 2 cups your going to have overpaid players.

I don't see why everyone is complaining about 15-20 goal scorers not scoring in the first 13 games. No one is a PPG player, so I don't get why everyone is expecting 30-50 point players to tally 1-2 points a night. Amazing. The only person who is really that disappointing out there is Kopitar, followed by Gaborik. And to be honest it's still only 13 games in. Things will come. The team looks pretty good all in all. You guys just need patience.

He's made a few nice plays, and got a bit of production thus far, so people haven't been on him, but for the most part he's been pretty bad.

Dean was hoping Gaborik would be like Selanne he said himself he sees a Teemu situation with Gabs. Maybe Gaborik is pacing himself for later and to stay healthy. We'll see how he plays, I just hate Brown.

Brown has to get dealt because we can bring a tremendous player for that cap hit and also resign Toffoli and Lucic. Toffoli is the future. Pearson should have been on Kopis wing long ago.

Sutter likes to play Shore to much for my liking. The kid is not ready for full NHL duties , he hasn't shown anything this year nor last.

not to mention that he's wavier exempt... he is usually solid at face-offs but the answer is that sutter wants defensively minded offense and shore is that. it contradicts sutter's point about "boxes" at the beginning of the year though when he was implying in his weird-talk way that the 3C "box" needs to be notching points.

What are his options though? Shore plays pretty well defensively and is good on the draw. I'm definitely disappointed in Shore's offensive contributions but Sutter can't play Carter and Kopitar all night. Weal has yet to prove that he even belongs in the NHL, Andreoff sure as hell ain't the answer, Lewis' strengths are best used at wing and he can't win a faceoff to save his life... Dowd? Even Shore outplayed him at the AHL level. In an ideal world Shore is our fourth line center but I don't see anyone in the organization realistically taking that third line center spot from him right now.

Glad you had such a good time. LA is a great city, I hope you come back!:yo:
I absolutely will. That was not only the best week I've had all year, it was also one of the best weeks of my entire life. Your city treated me so, so well. All the driving fears I had before the trip were pretty much vanished by week's end... it really wasn't that bad at all. If anything, it was excellent driving experience and it means I can handle pretty much anything traffic-wise here now.

Here's a slideshow if any of you folks are interested in seeing how much fun I had in your neck of the woods: https://vimeo.com/145098123

I couldn't believe that you guys have super-comfy seats even in the highest reaches of Staples Center. To get seats like that here you basically have to pay triple-figures.
