Player Discussion Cayden Primeau Part II

One thing that seems clear is that goalies have a different development curve than both defensemen and forwards (maybe more like defensemen, but still different). It's actually possible for a goalie to have a HOF career starting at the age of 30. No other position would allow this.

In a way, drafting goalies makes little sense. You assume a responsibility for a player who may develop into an NHL player, or not. And just as likely is that you'll find a goalie on waivers, or in Europe, in the 28-30 age range that perform better than draftees.

It could very well happen, as it did with Lindgren, that Primeau begins playing steadily at 30, but the drafting team cannot benefit from it. I think that's the shift we're seeing away from drafting, and towards recruiting from Europe, KHL, and free agents when goalies are reaching peak performance.

Should Fowler stay longer? Primeau's numbers were very comparable to Fowler's.
He played about 150 AHL games, one long playoff run where he was exceptional. He got games here and there in Montreal but he imo wasn't rushed, he simply isn't a goalie with NHL potential.

Primeau played in NE that traditionally makes their goalies stats look really good.

I don't think Fowler should go back for year 3, especially if he wins the Richter and the frozen four.

Plus he would be coming in a situation where he can platoon in Laval, where Primeau kind of was given lion share of starts right away.

There's a difference between these two. Fowler is a legit top end goalie prospect. Primeau was a great 7th round pick but the upside was never as close.

Montembeault starting tonight again. The organisation doesnt seem to trust Primeau anymore…

How about a trade with Winnipeg? Primeau for Kahkonen straight up. A change of scenary for both (upcoming UFA) goalies.

Pez could play net better than Primeau. Free Pez!

I just get an image of pezz in his goalie gear randomly getting angry at his goalposts, and then eventually getting into a fight with his net while play is ongoing.

Had a great first game. Hoping he has good run in Laval. Given that he is waivers exempt we may be able to trade him

Primeau is not one to give up. He will rebound but I think he needs years to show his true potential (like Lindgren). He's at the spot in his career where he is a very good AHL goalie but not good enough to be trusted as a back-up in the NHL.

I wish Primeau good luck but his days with Montreal are numbered.

He will thrive elsewhere in a few years.

Primeau watching the Habs' D transform from a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off, into the 1970's Habs' D after he got sent down:
