I mean you can't just waive Primeau and bring up Dobes, it's not fair to Dobes where he needs to be the guy down in the AHL all season. It doesn't make sense to disrupt his development just to make a 'statement' by waiving Primeau after a game where he wasn't great but most goals were a disasterclass by Matheson.
Hughes has played like 6 games in North America and is doing a good tandem job with Dobes right now. I'd prefer to leave Laval alone which is why you'd look for a trade where there's a team who wants to gamble on Primeau long term and can afford to move a veteran back-up goalie in exchange.
Matheson played a horrendous game and if you want to start with accountability, you start in game and send a message that it doesn't matter how good you are, or how tenured you are, if you make unacceptable plays and are the most minus 3 a minus 3 can be; you don't get to play anymore.. you certainly don't get gifted all the surplus offensive opportunities in a game.
If you want to start with accountability, start there.. not just waiving Primeau after the game without putting an actual plan in place. The Matheson messaging would be far louder than doing that with Primeau.
