Would Caufield + a non 5th overall pick be enough for Anaheim to move the 2OA this draft? Assumption is there is an 8x8 sign & trade in place.

FWIW I would have a hard time trading Caufield from Montreal's perspective only because he's the first guy who looks like he could pot 50 in multiple decades, but I also think Fantilli will be a better player long term.

BONUS: If you think this is a trade that could get done - do you think Chicago would ever entertain Bedard for 2+5? Why/why not?

(I don't endorse these trades, just curious what other people think)

Easy no, on top of what other posters have said, keep in mind the Ducks also have to sign Zegras and Terry. So if you're paying Caufield 8x8, what the hell are you going to pay those two who have better production because it has to be more. That locks up a whole lot of money to three players.

This isn't even remotely realistic. Fantilli is the best draft eligible player we've seen since Matthews in 2016. He just happens to be in the same draft as Bedard. He would have been 1OA in each of the last 6 drafts. You're offering an undersized top 6 winger who is already often injured and a pick outside the top 10.

Doubt fantili goes 1OA over Dahlin and Lafrenriere

When making a trade with the Ducks, ask who is/will be the best player in the trade. If he's not coming to the Ducks, chances are it doesn't make sense to Anaheim. They have plenty of depth at virtually every position (Minty, Zell, Luneau, Warren, Hinds, Pastujov, Gaucher, Perrault, Helleson, Tracey... and those are just guys that aren't full time NHL players that have a chance to be varying levels of effective). Add to that, Zegras, Terry, and McTavish as top 6 forwards and Drysdale (maybe LaCombe?) as a top 4 D as part of the future core. Adding Fantilli, the Ducks will basically just need a "3rd wheel" in each of the top 2 lines, be it internal or external. No need to add that now (Anaheim can still wait and see with prospects) or to pay a heavy price for it. If a deal comes along for something that is really needed, then do 1 for 1 or Ducks package multiple picks/prospects for an upgrade, but not trading the #2 pick for multiple lesser pieces.

I like the confidence to ask for the second overall.
Maybe 2nd overall in the 2nd round is more like it.
Both ridiculous; realistically somewhere around 10.
