NYR get a small but potential high scoring sniper. Maybe another Debrincat. Or a dud.

Habs get a home boy that may live up to his potential and be a star. Maybe a star or maybe Drouin 2. Or nothing but bottom 6 grinder.

The 2nd is to bridge the gap between the two players potential.

This is actually an interesting risk that both teams can take and may work out for both. Or not.

Not that I'm for or against the trade, but I find it interesting that people saying Laf is worth "way" more etc. Is that solely based on draft position?

I think that both have a lot of potential and both could be high-end wingers, but I think at this stage CC has had a lot less time to prove himself, and Laf hasn't shown much in the time he's had.

I guess the Rangers could try to make the Habs pay for the whole Quebecois angle, but I'd guess they're perfectly fine with CC's upside.

No its based on potential, Lafreniere's is way higher

You know what the word "potential" means? The draft is choking with them.

At this point, the draft position means little. It's more what we have seen from both of them.

CC looked like he's rookie of the year shoe in....and it got to his head. He's not competing and it shows. If he was the CC of last playoffs, Rangers would have to add substantially.

I can't speak for Laffy.

Based on what?

I'm not too high on either, but Caufield has shown flashes of elite goal scoring ability. Haven't seen that from Lafreniere.

Lafreniere has shown a lot to be desired from a 1st overall, but Caufield has definitely not shown flashes of elite goal-scoring ability at the NHL level. Laf has scored goals at a higher clip than Caufield has, whether or not you include the latter's post-season appearance.

Caufield
9g 20p in 46gp

Lafreniere
17g 27p in 78gp

Productivity is essentially equal, but Caufield has actually shown by visible flashes of a dynamic goal scorer, a guy who can make plays out of nothing.

Lafreniere hasn't really shown that, and a large portion of his goals are gimmes off of great plays from his teammates.

And how much of caufields points are on the powerplay? Laf is unfortunately on a stacked lineup and does not get pp1 time.
Laf also has the physicality to play and do great in the playoffs.

3 PP points for Caufield. Lafreniere has 0 PP points in over 100 career minutes on the PP.

I don't think Lafreniere has the intensity or skating ability to be effective in the playoffs at this point in time.

This was just trolling, right? No one could think the difference is a second round pick.

Stacked is a bit of an exaggeration only zib makes list of top 20 goal scorers.
