To those using re-sale sites as examples of Jets struggling to get people. 4 years ago me and a friend went to a Vancouver Canucks get, we got $165 tickets for $75! If someone is desparate enough to sell their tickets, they will salvage what they can instead of getting $0

Well it's obvious who this team follows. They follow the example set by Mark and Blake.

When both of those two were out and we rode Dubois and Conner the whole team busted their butt and was skating. Its no real surprise we had our beat and most dominant stretch of the year while they were out or relegated to third line roles.

The moment Maurice elected to get them going at the cost of a system and effort that was having success and started overplaying them is the moment this team fell apart. Pretty much the cardinal sin of a coach is that he put two individuals and their success above the team.

No wonder things are such a cluster f***
Exactly. Thanks for saying it.

 I watched the whole game with the volume low enough that I could hear sound, but not actually make out the words. Muted completely just seems too strange. I had listened to a bit of Hextall calling a game earlier in the season. Never again! Just terrible. Maybe she could do colour, but not pxp.

She has a beautiful voice but not a voice for play by play. Color I can accept. Maybe it was the awkwardness or having a female doing play by play or maybe... she just sucks. None of the play by play announcers on Sportsnet are acceptable. I REALLY like Dennis Beyak. He is exciting to listen to. I am very happy to have him as the teams play by play announcer.

didnt wheels and scheif state in a post season presser something to the affect that taking into account the makeup of the team the fans should be happy with the results

I think we need our own. The only time this team gets up, is when there is physicality. Buff used to fire this team up all the time.

Who sets a tone on this team..... I'll bet everyone says Lowry. Well, he is almost invisible in this way most nights. Dubois? Probably as close as we get to an agitator (and a good hockey player).

We don't even hit, let alone get under an opponents' skin.

I think you missed my point. A dirt bag on the other team is what gets our guys fired up. Then Lowry or Dillon fights him and we start playing with some passion. Lowry and/or Dillon throwing a few hits doesn't get it done.

It isn't about us getting under an opponents skin. It is about someone, anyone getting under our skin. The best thing opponents can do is take care not to wake us up.

My guess is we get a 2nd and a B prospect for him

I would be disappointed in that. Looking at his numbers from the last couple of years, he should easily be worth a 1st. But scouts watching him, especially lately, might agree with you.

Whatever, take the best we can get. Same with Stastny and I am going to say Stanley too. Hope some GM gets excited by his size.

I don't think it was the female voice, but honestly, I can't be quite sure. I think Leah is just bad. I'm in favour of more women getting their chance at some of these male dominated jobs. But I wonder if Leah got the job because she is female and hadn't done the appropriate apprenticeship. Maybe a couple of years doing pxp for a Jr team in the sticks somewhere would have prepared her better.

Tanev was one of our best at that, always going 110% and hitting everyone . We need someone like that again.

You have to bring in the professional PR excuse department to soothe the ire of unhappy fans --like :

1) The Jets were tired tonight

2) They just got off a tough road trip

3) Dave Lowry hasn't had enough time with this team.

4) They were missing 2 key players in Ehlers and Pionk

5) They took this team for granted and were not ready.

6) Too many players with aftereffects of having contracting COVID.

Pretty good excuses to soothe the angry fan base, it's a start

When it comes down to it -- no excuses, but we need some character players that will lead, and play with consistency, night in and night out.

I think we have some - but agree we need more. Or maybe just fewer of the disinterested ones.

The first period was crap. Again, they are perimetre players (well, the Scheifele line is anyway). Dubois goes to the net, but Cole has to understand that often a simple play is better than the fancy play. And Connor is starting to get predictable. Meanwhile, our bottom six couldn't find the back of the net if they were led by the hand by Gretzky, Bossy and Bobby Hull.

I.think

Lowry adds some leadership, but he doesn't have any hands. Harkens should score more. The rest... all replaceable (and in fact, should be replaced). Gus isn't showing enough. Svetch is a failed experiment. Toninato just isn't good enough.

I think some of your points are good but you ate off about:

1. Gus- the bus has yet to really be tested due to injuries.
2.toninato - he is a solid 4th liner who kills penalties and is under used
3. Schvech- has talent, is tough and is much maligned. He must be in the coaches doghouse for off ice issue as on the ice he works hard and can be effective but needs more than 3 minutes a game
4. Harkens- i am not sure you can say a player should score more but he should play more and if he does not find someone you trust.

Trade or buy out the captain. Imo that is what it will take to shock this team out of their funk. This core has had its string of chances, time to go in another direction.

By core I'm talking the Wheeler, Mark lead group. If Scheifele is willing to buy into a new direction you keep him around, if not you move him out to.

I'm pretty sick of this constant overplaying of two lazy and inconsistent players. You want to know why our team is inconsistent its because we have inconsistent and one dimensional players in the most prominent positions getting all the ice time no matter how lazy and poor they play. Why would anyone expect the rest of the team to bust their asses given the example being set.
You think Wheeler is lazy?

After people debunk pretty much every argument against him except contract value - the same tired incorrect tripe gets spewed

You don't see him taking shifts off, conserving energy, making poor defensive reads and plays? I see it almost every game. Maybe that is due to more ce time then he can handle but he is far from the high motor play a hard game player he was years ago.

Well I guess the season is over since Toronto won the Stanley cup last night against Seattle.... wait a second, don't they always win the Stanley cup everytime they win a game? Or wait that's what their fans just say lol
It is not just the fans ot is the media too that makes it seem like every game is game 7 of the cup

Svetch is not a capable offensive NHLer. And he’s not tough either, or at least certainly not intimidating.

No worries, so did the Jets.

You got that right, as by reading the comments, they didn't put out any type of effort. Too bad they can't get their act together on a consistent basis, because the talent is there.

I think they will play good against the Wild, which I think is their next game ? as they really get up for certain teams. I guess we'll see.

Boy oh boy, finally get back and with an afternoon off and think I may settle in with a hot drink and watch the game --

And then I click on this thread, and the whole thing's off...

I agree that deployment is a real issue -- has been for years, and doesn't seem to have changed much under Lowry.

- Top line
- Sorta top line
- Shutdown line (no scoring for you, lads!)
- Bench-warming line

Plenty of ToI for the big boys, decent amount for those who do special; teams, scrapes or worse for the barrel-scrapers and exhaustion for the few players who seem capable of scoring regularly.

And Helle seemingly deciding when and how much he plays, despite the presence of a backup in Comrie who has had respectable numbers and done well when leaned on. WTH wasn't;t Comrie between the pipes last night? Rested while Helle is coming off a B2B, Monday-night game against a meh team, played a blinder against the Blues -- nope, roll out the Ironman again.

The team is who we thought they were after the first 1/4 of the season: .500, mediocre, capable of pulling out a solid win and losing the next night, over and over and over and over. Some legit stars on the wings and some strength down the middle, very little scoring support from the back end or down the lineup. Yeah, the roster has holes, but player deployment remains a key issue with this coaching staff and won't change until it does. There's so little fluidity -- never mind creativity -- in their play for long stretches, and then it happens (55 - 26 PP goal against the Preds, Heinola to 55, etc) and you wonder where it's been for the last 40/60/200 minutes.

Special teams have improved; most other aspects of their game have remained the same: look to move back to the point for wasted shot after shot; a whole lotta chip n' chase; over-reliance on some players w/o reference to current play; continuing inability to clear the zone and transition quickly; difficulty getting plays to the net; little capacity to cause havoc except in our own zone.

Some bright spots too: more aggressive PK, esp with KC; some strong young prospects looking to hit their stride in Heinola and Perfetti and perhaps Gus if he can get some games in, but a top-heavy lineup that can't seem to adjust to opponents and is easily shut-down.

I don't think it matters who's behind the bench at this point -- time to let them go out and play and start working the trade phones -- and give us some hope for next season fer tha luva Mike.

It's great being pre-warned, isn't it? Like when movies put this at the start instead of the end.

I'm rooting for the guy, but I don't see much more than a replacement level player. The most valuable thing be has done so far is take an elbow to the nose.

I'd blame the coaching staff for benching him, but he had the same issue in Detroit. I doubt 2 teams are both wrong. Both teams have poor forward options and every incentive to see the guy succeed.

I don't think there is anyone who does not think that the loss of Buff was huge, massive.

But too many people keep lamenting the loss. He was aging out and would have been gone by now anyway. You need to let go. Buff is in the past. It makes as much sense as lamenting the loss of Selanne. Buff is gone. Move on.
Edmonton still hasn't recovered from losing Gretzky...

I find it so discouraging that Lowry continues to emphasize that the team primarily only needs to play with more grit and physical play everywhere in order to succeed. This mindset, without some careful balance, could have a decidedly negative effect on Heinola and Perfetti. The downside above all else is that this crew of coachs are incapablr of putting these guys in a position where they can learn, gain confidence and further their development for the remainder of this year. It doesnt look very encouraging to me right now....

Chris Cuthbert is the best in the business but there's a bit of a steep drop off in quality after him on Sportsnet. Singh is getting much better as he gets more games though.
