Reading that Reddit thread, you’d think it was a goddamn war zone last night.

I heard a lot of chanting back and forth, but didn’t see anything remotely like what was described in that thread. It sounds like a couple of hot-spots got a lot of attention from people in the areas around them.
Yeah I didn't experience anything, either.

All in all it was nice to be back with the usual crowd for a regular season game. I actually have more of an issue with the clusterf*** of a parking situation last night than anything regarding the fans

How do you stream ESPN+? I have an Xbox and unfortunately NordVPN isn’t an option for that. t
I bought a FireStick for $25, which has a NordVPN app and ESPN (obvs). I also have Roku, but it doesn't have a NordVPN app.

Yep. Laptop with VPN set to out of market server, ESPN+ in Chrome tab, cast to Chromecast.
It can be done similarly from a phone. Instead of an Apple TV I have a nvidea shield which is a great streaming device on the android platform that has chrome cast built in so it’s easy with any video (on phone, tablet, puter) that has the chrome cast symbol. I use private internet access (pia) which has an app specific to android tv devices (and apple as well). I turn on the pia app and choose wherever I want to “be”, open the app for the game and watch. They say you can arguably turn off the vpn after you start and it’s fine. I haven’t tried that. I stay with pia because of their turn on/off ability using its app which is really easy to use.

I use all this for the avs more than the Canes as I’m out of market. Once you’ve used it once it’s easy.

The one I have in mind from last night was in the second period, that Dougie-like diagonal pass from deep in the zone without a target to retrieve it, leading to a clean turnover.

It’s not a huge deal, it’s usually part of the tradeoff for guys who are going to be aggressive with the puck like TDA and DJH. In general I’d say TDA has been better than expected so far. Just not completely above criticism for the odd blown play.

I think that's a fair assessment. I'd also point out that Hamilton's goofs often turned the puck over to the opponent's first line, while TDA saw easier opposition last night. That could change in the future, although I liked Bear with Slavin, and based on last night I am not interested in Skjei-TDA.

not that it matters, but did anyone see video that clearly showed that the isle's first goal was in?

i don't doubt it was in. i saw angles where i could deduce it was in. but i never saw an angle showing indisputible evidence of puck over line. i thought that was the standard, but maybe being able to deduce is clear enough?

Yeah, there was a shot that showed it clearly against his pad and entirely over the line.

I'll blame my VPN for now... will be trying a different one... but I chose a few different servers around the country last night to make espn app think I was out of market... tried Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, etc..

In each situation, the ESPN app itself told me in its error message that it detected I was using a VPN and it was not permitted. I had to turn off the VPN to use the ESPN app..

So it could be that whatever way my VPN was anonymozing itself or presenting it as being in a different location is being detected by the app...

Hulu worked for me last night but that isn't a guarantee long term..

Were you using phone or laptop? Phone has multiple location mechanisms that tell on you. You may also be running other location services on your laptop.

I was using Fire Stick + Express VPN and was getting the streaming error on ESPN+... apparently they've learned how to detect VPN and block you out entirely. That really sucks bc I paid decent money for ExpressVPN. I was finally able to catch part of the game on Hulu later at least but this has been a mess so far...give me back NHL.TV where it doesn't take 20 min to flip around until you find hockey. And PLEASE give an option to start from the beginning? Seems stupid that streaming you can only go live

Yeah I was getting the error message from the ESPN app on apple iPad tablet, android phone, windows laptop and Sony smart TV. I used a different vpn for the Sony tv as well since it didn’t support my usual VPN.

I’m pretty sure it’s not the VPN, but haven’t fully ruled it out. I think ESPN app just got better at recognizing users are using a vpn and they have coded to error out in that situation. Very annoying. I mistakenly added ESPN+ service thinking it might allow me to watch formula 1 races since I refuse to have cable TV service just to get the ESPN network…. Silly me I thought ESPN + got you regular ESPN stuff as well…. Nope…. Money grubbing $&*#

. I was just going to cancel the package and drop it until I read about the nhl.tv conversion and that I thought I would be able to watch canes games again…. Not so much so far…. If this keeps up, I’ll definitely be dropping it… so much for trying to legitimately pay for the ability to watch on tv…. It’s like ESPN doesn’t want my money or something….

Would also like to express my displeasure with Bally Sports South. Although I'm in North Carolina I'm somehow considered out of market and was unable to watch any of the preseason games they streamed + the home opener

I live on the NC/Va border. Apparently that dotted line that I live on the wrong side of (in more ways than one, F U Virginia) puts me in the caps market, even though I am 2 hours from Raleigh and 4.5-5 or so from DC.
I got sick of the entire song and dance with that, and the feeds which have a stream quality like bob is streaming it from his van outside the game. I tried to do it the "by the book". I got shafted. Now I do the end around on all of it and don't feel a bit bad about it. They can take their hoops, imaginary lines, and shove it all. Shouldn't have made it hard. I wanted one team and was willing to pay a fair price for it. Oh well. Now they get nothing.
