I didn't even have Mittelstadt on my radar, I kinda assumed since we drafted Nylander last year Murray wouldn't be taking another skilled winger, then Murray gets fired and it still never crosses my mind that we would draft him. I was completely caught off guard when Botterill said "from Edin Prairie"
I'm very excited about it now, because from what I've seen he's right there with the 4 forwards drafted ahead of him.
IMO he will be better suited to center and will take over the #2C role in time (not the #1 spot since he isn't pushing out Eichel).
I don't agree about him winning the #2 spot, but there's nothing wrong with having flexibility. Best case scenario, we have 4 guys in our top 6 that can play center(Eichel, ROR, Reinhart, Mittelstadt). Adds dimension and combinations that don't lower the talent level of our top 6.
He's 7 or 8 years younger then ROR, so eventually him or Sam will probably be the No.2 C on this team.

Lots and lots of things change over time, and I do think Mittelstadt is the level of player that will push his way into his spot. I think he is that good (and I'm plenty familiar with the level of player ROR is... Avs fan).

I think it will be Sam that wins it personally, but there's nothing wrong with people thinking Casey could win it.
His interwievs remind me of Fasching, words just keep rolling.
Is that some Minnesota thing or only coincidence?
The book I saw on Mittelstadt at draft time was he is able to elevate his game when moving up a class of competition. Sounds like dev camp was that in a nutshell, nondescript during rote drills, dominant when the game is on, and better as the stakes rise.
Sounds like a guy who is in need of a challenge. NCAA this year, and pro in 2018.
I see it being a cost/money thing.
I see it being 4 yrs till he is donw with his ELC...new contract in 21/22. He gets a 2 yr bridge takes him to when ROR/KO contracts are over. that is costs savings,
Reinhart is due 18/19 a high contract, or 20/21 if its a bridge.
You do have a defacto competition between the two is its about 2C. It could be different if Reinhart is just a winger.
I can see them moving one of them for a Dman if they need to replace Bogo/Scandella when their contracts end if players don't develop.

Needed an "obviously" counter.
I just can't comprehend how an elite young athlete can't do a pull-up.
Is that actually true?
Interesting to go back to the night of the 1st round to see some of the negative reaction to Mittelstadt being selected at #8.

Just because you're confident enough to show off your flexing muscles, doesn't mean everyone is.seriously. His prospect thread on the main board had a bunch of that as well. I'm a fan of if you are going to criticise how someone looks on the internet, you should post your picture....your move Moskau
