I appreciate the feedback, and it helps me understand what people are seeing, but it only supports what I see above--if others are quoting and summarizing posts simply because they don't like the content, all we can do is nuke the thread and start over.

If there's genuinely offensive/trolling stuff, it will be handled. But again we can't catch everything. And not everything is 'trolling' just because it's made by a certain username.

If folks want it tightened up, I'd better not have my inbox lit up again by people whining.

I get it, and I agree. I acknowledge it's a delicate balance, and I guess all things considered, I'd rather get frustrated with one person being trolled than to hear whining of "why was my post deleted but not X's". You've been up front in how you handle it - you treat us like adults and expect us to handle it like we are.

I understand the situation you are put in. Again, not calling/demanding you take any action. But I know you, as a mod, don't have the luxury of ignoring (part of the reason why I could never be a mod, lol). We can certainly encourage everyone to ignore a poster, not respond to anything offensive, or to report posts if it goes too far. But I think we know, realistically, that's not going to happen.

I just wanted to point out, for all the good intentions, the ignore feature won't help. I didn't see the quote, so I don't know if it's something that is report-worthy anyway. I certainly think it's a fine line between having a "bad opinion" and "trolling" at times, and I think ultimately the history of the poster should tip the needle one way or another. Given the history of the poster to ignore evidence to assert something provably untrue, that person has lost the benefit of the doubt to me when it's a fine line.

FWIW, we appreciate the thankless job you do. This isn't a complaint. Options for recourse are limited once the ignore function is utilized. I just feel it's important to point that out in future events should the line be straddled again.

Things are done. Posts are deleted, warnings are issued as appropriate. But "bad opinions" getting amplified by a lynch mob isn't one posters fault. That's a community. Things are 'hard to follow' not because of one post but because that sets off 10-15 other posters who just 'don't like' the content even when it's not breaking rules so they round up a dogpile that turns everything into a shitshow.

Also consider there are only two of us locals now and we're not here 24-7 despite popular belief so things may not be as immediate as people like. Feel free to use 'report' and if it's not handled in a timely manner by us there are global mods as well.

I don't want you to get the impression that I'm complaining about the moderating of this board, I appreciate the level of moderation on this board. The moderation here is better than the main board.

I'm emphasizing that this is not a "bad opinion." There are plenty of bad opinions here, we've all been here a long time, there are plenty of posters here with opinions that I have consistently disagreed with. For years. There are plenty of posters here with a shtick so consistent that if I took over their accounts I could easily post for them and nobody would know the difference. There's a certain former Kings fan turned ducks fan who consistently posts on the main board who has been on my ignore list for over a decade. I have plenty of posters on my ignore list. This is different. This is deliberate. He has an avatar of the player and has never responded to any of the many posts pointing out that the player would have been required to sign an ELC. Every thread this happens people emphasize that he is trolling and should be ignored or at the very least not responded too, yet the problem persists. We can't stop people from taking the bait. Take this thread for example, how many posts aren't by him, quoting him, responses to posts quoting him, or people talking about ignoring him? Because I see a 5 page Jeff Carter thread with 7 posts about Jeff Carter.

Right, I'm not taking it as anything but a request to stay on topic, it's all good.

This particular thread should have been dead a long time ago so just going to close it now. But feedback received from all loud and clear. And if anyone else has further thoughts, feel free to PM, I'm not trying to cut off the conversation, just trying to draw a reasonable closing line.
