Carter is old, slow, doesn't score anymore, and is terrible...but he's worth a 1st and top prospect to another team. Do I have that right?

This thread should be re-titled "Carter and cognitive dissonance"...

When you read only what you want to read, as you frequently do, sure.

Carter isn't slow, he just DGAF like most of the roster. Dude spends most of his time on the ice circling like a buzzard on rollerblades. Only thing he's been good at this year is winning face offs, probably because the other guy thinks he's asleep and then gets taken by surprise.

Getting rid of some regrettable contracts isn't necessarily the worst thing that could happen. This team needs to shed a lot of dead weight.

They should trade these 2 asap. I would rather see someone excited and grateful - with much upside - like Scherbak, go out and play 12-15 minutes on line 2 and give his all...
any growing pains and all - then watch these 2 coast around all night and do nothing. I know...I know...the NHL is not a 'development league'...but neither is it a
'retirement contract, dial it in league' either. Would rather see Leipsic and Scherbak bust it and - yes - play for their next contract.

You know what I like...is Auston Matthews, saying "I want to be the best player in the world"...and
ACTUALLY DO whatever he can to become that. Admirable. Whether or not it's cocky, arrogant or if he can attain that or not...would love to see some of that in the Kings. Not for instance, a Matt Luff to say that...but why not a player like that say "I am dedicated to be the best player on this team and make a difference every night and I;m going to score 2 goals tonight..battle for my teammates and I;m going to give the Coyotes shttt...and put pucks past Adin Hill...light him up" Get some attitude. Moxy. Battle paint. Your goal is not to play in the NHL....it's to excel and for every player in the league to know who you are...not just a third or 4th liner fringe player....this is one reason Doughty succeeds...he wants to be the best defenseman and best player on the ice...and is fearless...did you see when he was saying "I am getting to the point when I go out, I don't want to get scored on"....wow. And his game suffered, as did the Kings....A big part of this game is confidence, attitude and driving to be better than you are and do more than you or your coach think you are capable of. And instill that into your teammates...if the players started this mindset, things would change fast. This aint rah rah bullshit. There is truth to it. And it also requires dedication and hard work in doing it.

If you trade Carter who do we have currantly on the roster to take over 2C? Toffoli will most likely be moved at the deadline if Blake can find the right deal. Let's see how good Valardi is once he plays in the NHL first before dealing Carter. By some chance if we draft Hughes then I'd be open to trading Carter in the offseason. Until we find out how good Valardi is then I think we need to hold off trading Carter.

The team is done, trade him now before he further depreciates.

Easy, Nate Thompson.

We don’t need a replacement, plug some one there. we are terrible. Get some assets and look to the future

It's stunning when you look at some Kings players stats , it's as though the coaches and not just WD don't even look at numbers. Carter's shooting percentage, which is the kiss of death for King players is 6.3% which is a career low for a player who has played in 932 NHL games. Last season in 27 games he scored 13 goals and had a 15.3 shooting percentage and averaged 17:51 of ice time. This season in 28 games he has 5 goals, the horrendous shooting percentage and his ice time has shot up to 18:59 which is the most he's had sine 11/12 in Columbus. Basically, if you are a King player the worse you play the more you play. He has 1 even strength goal. Cemented on the 2nd line.

This is more entertaining than the Kings play this season.

I can see the new season seat marketing slogan now..."spend thousands on watching terrible hockey for the next 5 years!! We're not even trying to be competitive!! Come see ECHL hockey at NHL prices!! Demand is strong so get your tickets while they last!!"

Good luck with that :)

well I disagree that we would be 'terrible' for 5 years. Good luck with the current team.

They're terrible WITH Carter as the number 2 center. If hes not here you think they're going to be worse?

What is your suggestion for the team?

Here is my recommendation for the fans...take a chill pill. Blake and Co. are not going to gut this team!! They are not going to roll with a center corp of Kopitar-Amadio-Kempe-whomever. They are not going to ruin guys like Kupari, Vilardi, and JAD by rushing them into top 6 roles as teenagers. They are not going to waste the best remaining years of Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Brown, and (probably) Carter by being a bottom dweller for the foreseeable future. Pittsburgh isn't doing it nor is Chicago. The Kings will make changes around the edges and try to get better that way. They'll keep the picks they have and try to improve that way. They'll selectively try to unload veterans and try to improve that way. But they WON'T dump everyone but Doughty and start over. You guys are crazy if you think they will.
