Weird. Hope he’s okay. Edmonton product that I thought was on his way to having a good year in Philly? How did his last couple of starts look?

Lol! The vitriol Kings fans have towards that primadonna is quite entertaining.
First 3 goals on Saturday he didn’t have much of a chance on. The 4th and 5th goals were not good.
Hopefully everything works out for the guy.

Are we allowed to post that Steve Simmons has given his take on X? Ersson has been fantastic for the Flyers... I've watched an absurd amount of their games given I'm a non Flyers fan.

If you want to connect dots, folks, do it on your own time and platform.
Player steps aside for personal reasons.

Is it just me or does the statement from Briere (Flyers) feel....cold?

Like no we wish him well or anything like that. Just "The Club will have no further comment at this time."

At least the Flames statement had something long the lines that he was working with mental health professionals and the sort.

Needless to say, hope everything with Hart is ok and he gets the help he needs. Going through depression/mental health issues really sucks and can severly affect the person and everyone around them.

Personal reasons do not automatically mean mental illness. Lots of speculation that he is stepping aside for that reason without evidence.

Maybe Hart wanted it stated that way to discourage the media from hounding the Flyers with questions that would invade his privacy.

Since you asked, ya, it's just you. I'm going with the wild assumption that the Flyers care deeply about Hart's situation, whatever it is.

Interestingly, nothing about Dube participating in the NHL/NHLPA Players assistance program though. Would imagine that's there for this exact reason, not just substance abuse.

The fact that this is happening on a Torts team is great. He is viewed as such a dinosaur but I think he's grown a lot over the years.

According to the Flyers statement, Hart requested it. Gonna need Jones, Briere, and Hilferty to get on TV and talk about how the kid doesn't want to be a Flyer and can go f*** himself or whatever.

But i mean this would be my statement to not sound so cold.

"Carter Hart has requested and been given an indefinite leave from the team for personal reasons. The Flyers organization wishes him well and we ask for respect and privacy for him and team at this time."

I'm not a PR person but it just seems that a human statement that would both state the facts as well as hopefully deter any excess rumors or speculation.

Sometimes that type of statement turns out to be a PR blunder in and of itself, though. Speculate in your head I guess.

I hope everything’s okay.

I know this is speculation, but I want to say it anyway. I’m glad that people and companies are finally more aware and accepting of mental illness.

They’re only accepting if you’re under contract for millions of dollars.

Otherwise, out the door.

Well I hope he is ok, but if it is for mental health issues I am glad players are coming out more realizing they need help and not get help due the stigma men have for mental health. Hope for the best for him.

Revise is to "Since this is a personal matter we ask everyone to respect his and the Flyers privacy at this time".

Just sounds a lot better than "We have no further statements at this time"

That's saying the same thing in more words. A far cry from well-wishing, like you originally suggested. If they wanted to do that, they would've, but they didn't. Take from that what you will.

Does it matter what is said, people always want more.

The below was said after a shock that soccer Canada's new general secretary quit the day before she took the job. What was the media and fans response "well why wouldn't they just say if it's a health issue, we don't need to know exactly the health issue". Then if it would've been a health issue it would've been "well geez why don't they tell us what she has". It's a never ended spiral with press releases.

“Our thoughts are with Alyson as she deals with an unforeseen personal matter that sadly precludes her from taking on the role of general secretary," Canada Soccer president Charmaine Crooks said in a statement. "While we were all looking forward to having her lead Canada Soccer, we fully understand, and deeply respect her request for privacy. We wish her all the very best."

I would argue one statement is saying, please dont ask us or Hart about what is going on and respect our privacy.

The other statement is saying we dont want to talk about this anymore.

One is just a tad bit more callous than the other in my opinion.

Hart has mentioned years ago that he's struggled with anxiety and has been working with a sports psychologist since he was a teenager. Wish him all the best. Hope he takes all the time he needs.
