OT: Cars

Has anyone ever gone through the lemon law process before? I leased my wife a new Palisade and we are about to take the car back for the same repair for the third time. Substantial repair too, loss of all power to the dashboard so effectively, she has no speedometer, no ability to see RPM's, etc. ,
Varies by state... NY?

In NY you need one of the following to be true:
  • There have been four or more attempts to repair the car and the problem continues to exist.
  • The car is out of service by reason of repair of one or more problems for a cumulative total of at least 30 days. Contact the Department of Motor Vehicles at 518-474-8943 if there are problems obtaining repair orders in values.

Georgia. This will be the third attempt, which, after this attempt, meets the criteria in GA. I just didn't know if I should go straight for an attorney, utilize the state forms, etc.

You can usually get a free attorney consultation, may want to see what they recommend.

I am certainly reaching the want, but don’t need, a new car point. The wife and I are currently driving 11 year old Mazdas (a CX-5 and a 3) that both have about 125k miles on them. The “problem” is, the cars are perfect. Haven’t given me an ounce of trouble and have only needed routine maintenance.

These new cars have all sorts of tech and creature comforts (plus matte paint jobs that make me drool) that I absolutely want, but it’s hard to justify dropping $40k+ on a car that used to be $30k that I don’t even really need.

All of that said, does anyone here have any strong opinions on the small crossover market? We love our Mazdas and I really love the look of the new CX-50 but the Hybrid RAV-4 seems like a much better vehicle all around.

$40k on a new car is not a lot nowadays. The market has gone crazy like everything else. I do not even want to say how much I paid today. The only way I can justify it to myself is I have not bought a brand new car since 2000. I only bought used cars since then and my cars are definitely old now. They did give me a free complimentary dealer umbrella today since it was raining. I also help myself to their soda and snacks when I'm there so that should make up for the crazy price tag :(

Yeah, that’s what I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around. $40k for a run of the mill commuter car just feels insane, even though I know that’s just what things cost now.

The cars I really want cost $60-70k and I just ain’t doing that out of principle.

My family and friends encouraged me to splurge on this new car because I never buy myself anything. I figured if not then when since I'm getting older.

I researched what cars have the engine I want.
I now want a completely different type of car than I thought I wanted.

I've had a 2021 Cadillac XT4 and absolutely love it. Actually just had it wrapped in matte charcoal a few months ago. The 2024 ones are a little sleeker and have more bells and whistles. A little more than the two you suggested I believe.

When I was shopping around last year I was looking at the Kia Sportage. Have had 2 in the past and never any issues with them.

The car I bought yesterday was a bit pricy. Not crazy pricy but pricy. I find myself feeling guilty when speaking to a friend that lost her job. I knew I had buyers remorse over the years but now buyers guilt. Ugh!

I saw the average new car price is $49,000-$50,000.

The first car I ever bought new was a Miata. It cost me around $15,000.

$15,000 would now cover the options on some cars.

It is absolutely out of hand.

I bought my first "Luxury" car for $48k out the door..

These day that gets me a fully optioned Civic.

What car did you get? When? Do you like it?
I've long since moved on... Audi A6 10+ years ago.

I've decided its more enjoyable to drive well optioned, slow but flickable cars... rather then expensive boats.

Current ride is a GTI Autobahn (manual).

Driving is very individualistic. Its good you got what fits you. Some people say they love this or that car but never have driven them. For example many Lambos are clunky and not fun to drive below 40mph

My car has the auto hold on hills too. It’s pretty sweet.

I saw a white 944 last week. IMO the most beautiful car ever made.

I want a BRZ for my next car.
Got mine new in 2014. Most fun car I've ever owned. I adore it.

I'd like to do some paint correction on a black hood. Trying to decide between Sonax Perfect Finish and Carpro Ultra Cut. Also between a Lake Country Blue Pad or a Rupes Yellow Pad.
What I've learned is there is a ton of trial & error involved. The type of clear you're working on will determine the product choices. Hard paints need aggressive polishes & vice versa. Black paint takes a lot of patience & usually an extra step is required if you want it completely defect free.

What type of car & what kind of polishing machine are you using?
