Trading the 1st overall pick for 2024 on top of everything else makes that trade an overpayment IMO.

They should've known they probably still weren't gonna make the playoffs during Young's rookie season, and therefore they'd likely have a high 1st round pick in 2024 which would've helped them rebuild further.

This season, they will not only miss the playoffs, but them being a bottom dwelling team in the rankings has no pay off with them having traded their 1st round pick. This season is a nightmare scenario.

Also, even if Young had a better supporting cast, the jury is still out on him being a franchise tier QB. Too early to tell IMO.

I don’t think QB size is the driving factor here. QB ability is what matters. If you think you’ve got a good bead on a guy who will be the next HOF’er, you take that shot even if it means he’s getting there as more of a Russell Wilson type.
Sure, it's not the driving factor but it is a factor. It doesn't preclude a QB from being successful such as Wilson (who isn't a HOF'er), Drew Brees in only 6', etc..

My point is more that if you are going to make moves like you are the smartest guy in the room, then you better make sure you hit on that move. We won't know for years if they were right or not with Young, so clearly the jury is still out. I'm also confident they didn't think they were potentially giving up such a high pick this coming year (as you said).

Short term though, it looks like a terrible move.

Sometimes getting the first one off your back as a rookie QB is a big deal. Sometimes it doesn't mean anything. Hopefully it's the former for Bryce, and our schedule is much easier from here on out. Also Reich has had a ton of slow starts followed up by great play and wins down the stretch, including a 1-5 start where he wound up making the playoffs. I was really encouraged by the D today and Bryce had some really nice throws (though a few were bad drops) with no turnover worthy plays.

Definitely not expecting us to make the playoffs or even get above .500 but if we can get to 7 or 8 wins with Bryce showing more positives throughout the year after the horrible start then I'll be feeling better about this team. The only 2 opponents left on our schedule above .500 are the Cowboys and Jaguars, both solid teams and will be favorites against us but they are opponents we could swing upsets against, not Philly/KC/SF level powerhouses who we wouldn't stand any chance against. Every other game is very winnable, and we'll get some reinforcements on D later in the year.

Good one Panthers
I liked him more than Bryce pre-draft but I'm still not gonna judge these guys on such a tiny sample size so far. Stroud has been an absolute stud and that game was incredible, but still plenty of time to see how their careers turn out. Texans have legit coaching and although not big names, legit weapons. Panthers have none of the above.

The only team that's possibly worse right now is the Cardinals and that's because they traded Dobbs.

Pick 6 in the last seconds of the half, yikes.
About as pitiful as it gets. This coaching staff needs to go after this game. 3 points (only due to a nice kick return) against a team allowing 38 points per game this year. Just flat out embarrassing in every way

It’s time to bench Young for the rest of the year and hope and pray that he can learn NFL speed and decision making. There’s no value having him try to hack it out there with how he’s performing right now
