Tepper was never going to give Harbaugh the level of control in personnel decisions that Harbaugh reportedly wants.
Good. I don't want another college coach who's an unproven commodity in the NFL. The biggest part of college success is recruiting. Whole different ball of wax than coaching professionals. Harbaugh is likely going to want the same sort of giant guaranteed money deal Rhule got. f*** that. I don't care how many college games he's won.

So we're just going to ignore that in Jim Harbaugh's 4 years as a NFL coach before returning to coach Michigan, he won 2 division titles, went to the NFC Championship Game 3 times including 1 trip to the Super Bowl, and never finished with a below .500 record?

I admittedly did not know that. Don't follow coaches closely.

I think Tepper just doesn't want to pay Harbaugh after getting burned by Rhule. Roster control is probably not as big of a deal as the money. Tepper is just a cheap piece of shit even though he's one of the richest owners in the NFL.

I don't think it's trepidation.

I think it's Tepper's ego.
It's definitely his ego and his insisting on being such a hands on owner (often a very very bad thing). We'd be going into the 2023 draft and Tepper would have opinions about who to take and Harbaugh wouldn't hesitate to call him a dumb f***ing idiot who has ran this team into the ground since he bought it and tell him to shut the f*ck up when it comes to running a successful football team. And like you said Tep's ego wouldn't be able to accept that. Egos are the exact reason the Niners got rid of Harbaugh, Trent Baalke and their owner couldn't handle him. The reality is, Harbaugh has a massive ego but with the results to back it up. Others with big egos like Baalke and Tepper are not able to back it up like Harbaugh but Harbaugh rubs people the wrong way. Tepper has a massive ego but in the football world he has zero track record of any success. He's a successful hedge fund guy which doesn't mean a damn thing in the NFL but he won't accept that as the owner of the team worth billions.

A tiny bit of humility would go a long way for Tepper getting this team to a level of success but nothing we've seen so far suggests he's even heard that word, let alone displayed it as a characteristic.

Pretty much the only thing that would get through to him would be a hit to the checkbook but the NFL is freaking lucrative I'm pretty sure he would make money playing to an empty stadium 9 times a year.

Yeah given the bullshit around the Rock Hill campus, I fully expect him actually trying to get the team to play in front of an empty stadium so he can threaten to move the team in order to get taxpayers to build him a new stadium, either in Charlotte or anywhere else.

Guy is a carpetbagging snake oil salesman. Don't forget he also f***ed over the home grown NCFC MLS bid to get himself a soccer team.

Ah yes, the Major League strategy.

That is Pejorative Slured due to Ickey alone. He looked the part of franchise LT all year, an incredibly important piece for any championship team.

The article says that he provided basically all of the value for this rookie class. “Unspectacular… but started every game and still has plenty of promise for growth. Also a very small nod to Blackshear as “useful”.

Such an uninspiring hire. He's much better than Rhule, maybe a bit better than Wilks, but just not exciting at all. His upside is a few playoff appearances with early exits. Should've gone for one of the younger OCs who have been successful lately and at least had some upside even if the floor is lower. Or gone with a more proven retread in Harbaugh. Tepper continues to do Tepper things and make all the wrong decisions.

Really don't get why Panthers want to hire Reich, man. He's good OC, i guess but nothing more.

The Steichen interview went very poorly from what I've heard. They wanted an offensive minded head coach and he is the best mix of that with NFL coaching experience.

He is also friends with Vic Fangio and would be a huge get for the panthers if they could pull it off.

Meh hire but the franchise is meh so, meh. First QB in franchise history so that's cool, I suppose.

Reich isn't terrible and had to deal with Luck retiring but that Colts collapse in Jacksonville last year was all kinds of bad.

Still without a quarterback this team is going nowhere.

Cats dodged a bullet. I have zero faith in Harbaugh coming back to pro sports and learning how to coach pro athletes. Is actually not that good of a college coach TBH. His record in big games is very unimpressive.
