Maybe if they had Frk. Without him they're clearly better than at least Carolina.Detroit has gone from being the envy of everyone else, to possibly having the worst roster in the NHL.
3 teams have bad enough forward depth to claim a guy like Frk who was seen as a complete bust 1 year ago and is completely untested against NHLers?
So since the canes seem to love red wings players so much, what can we send you for slavin?
Lets base everything on stats.
Larkin.
Guy spends a couple of years in the ECHL and then busts out a 20-goal season in the AHL. Has never set foot on NHL ice.
I think the Red Wings will survive this tragic and unspeakable loss.
What's interesting, is one and likely 2 of those teams that made a claim were playoff teams. The only "non-playoff" team behind Carolina in the Waiver Claim priority was Boston, who had the same number of points as Detroit. Every other team was a playoff team and McKenzie said there were 3 teams placing a claim.
It's not like just bottom dwellers made a claim on him.
What player does Frk look to be? I haven't paid attention to him since his days with the Moose.
My guess is that Nashville was one because they were at 22 players today (Training Camp Thread).
Holland is an idiot. First Nestrasil and now Frk that multiple teams have tried to claim after he waived them. Really was zero reason to waive Frk. He will complete the trifecta next year when he loses one of Sheahan, Athanasiou, or Mantha to expansion.
No way is Holland leaving either one of Athanasiou or Mantha unprotected they would be used as tradebait before that happened. Sheahan, Helm, Glendening those would be the ones that would be exposed before AA and Mantha.
So since the canes seem to love red wings players so much, what can we send you for slavin?
There are going to be risers and fallers in draft rankings, but they're just that, rankings. They're analysts NOT with teams ranking players trying to estimate the progress they can make until the draft year.
Listen, I get certain people get pissed at holland for losing their favorite prospects for nothing, that sucks. But we're not losing Brett hull, we lost a guy who didn't improve enough to steal a spot.
He's not a 2 way player, so he has to be on a scoring line. Yeah, we could have not signed vanek, but if he can't beat out the shell of vanek then he's probably not hitting his potential.
He had a good few preseason games, and a decent half year in the ahl.
People complain they want to get better and not get bounced in the first round, but complain more when they keep the best possible players for the team they have.
If you're of the opinion that detroit is going to or needs to go the route of a scorched earth rebuild, you're rooting for the wrong team. Especially with the playoff streak intact.
Again, it sucks losing him, but he's not a world beater, he's an under achiever. Hell get good minutes and good opportunities in Carolina, the same way nestrasil did, but how many 3rd liners would make the wings a championship team?
