Claimed off Waivers: Carolina claims Martin Frk

I like Ott, have been on the get rid of Miller train for several years. Neither guy is really the one blocking Frk though. I mean yes Frk can actually play on a fourth line though.

But the one that sticks out like a sore thumb is Pulkkinen. Another right handed heavy shot, but he hits the net less often than Frk, cannot play with his physicality and doesn't get he shots off as quickly as Frk. While it is slightly heavier in terms of the shot it doesn't actually wind up being more effective at the NHL level than Martin Frk's shot because it is blocked more often.

I know Pulkkinen had a decent stretch before getting his shoulder blown out on the team last year. But he is a top 6 or bust guy and he doesn't project to be better than what is in front of him. With AA and Mantha knocking he will have to get it done from a depth line and he cannot play that game. Seriously not happy and wasn't happy before Frk didn't slip through. I was hopeful he might at this time of year, but Pulkkinen should have been the one we were chancing on exposing.

Dude, we don't know if any of that is true.

Frk played in the preseason, he never played a regular gsme against real nhl teams. Yeah, it sucks we lost frk for nothing, but he had a decent yesr in the ahl, pulks was historically good. Frk almost washed out of the echl two years ago.

I wish we could've kept him, but we're a really good draft and develop team, there's only so many people we can have on the roster who are all potential.

There wasnt.
It was a general consensus that he was a decent shot next to two elite playmakers, every analyst and there mom were saying he has potential but he had been carried.

This article has his rankings in it...
Notice anything similar?

Noone had him ranked all thst high.

After 10-11 rookie season, without Mackinnon and Drouin, I remember people having him top three and there was a lot of hype on here as well (I was a lurker)

They actually just signed another young D today

I knew someone would say that..and here's why I think that's different. They signed a D today because they needed a more veteran presence to play the bottom pairing. He may not have a ton of NHL experience, but Nakladal is 28 and has played professionally for many years and can play that role. Sproul doesn't fit that mold. He'd be another unproven (but more proven than Fleury/McKeown) guy that they would be throwing into the mix, which is what they are trying to avoid.

That said, I guess I'll never say never. If talent is available, you worry about having too much of it down the road.

There are going to be risers and fallers in draft rankings, but they're just that, rankings. They're analysts NOT with teams ranking players trying to estimate the progress they can make until the draft year.

Listen, I get certain people get pissed at holland for losing their favorite prospects for nothing, that sucks. But we're not losing Brett hull, we lost a guy who didn't improve enough to steal a spot.

He's not a 2 way player, so he has to be on a scoring line. Yeah, we could have not signed vanek, but if he can't beat out the shell of vanek then he's probably not hitting his potential.
He had a good few preseason games, and a decent half year in the ahl.

People complain they want to get better and not get bounced in the first round, but complain more when they keep the best possible players for the team they have.

If you're of the opinion that detroit is going to or needs to go the route of a scorched earth rebuild, you're rooting for the wrong team. Especially with the playoff streak intact.

Again, it sucks losing him, but he's not a world beater, he's an under achiever. Hell get good minutes and good opportunities in Carolina, the same way nestrasil did, but how many 3rd liners would make the wings a championship team?

Giving Frk a shot judging by how good he looked versus how bad Pulkinnen has looked far outweighs keeping Pulkinnen.

Pulkkinen was on pace for over 20 goals before his shoulder injury and led the team in defensive zone takeaways.

We wouldn't have to waive pulks, we could trade him tomorrow.

I don't think anybody was giving anything up to get him though.

The other GMs know how Holland operates too and who was likely to hit the wire from the Wings. So while he isn't worth maybe throwing a pick, you could be confident he was likely to hit the wire.

Even if a team was confident Frk would be waived, unless it was Toronto, those teams couldn't be confident they would make the highest priority claim.

3 teams have bad enough forward depth to claim a guy like Frk who was seen as a complete bust 1 year ago and is completely untested against NHLers?

I mean I like the kid and all, but he was like #16-17 on the Wings depth chart.

Detroit has gone from being the envy of everyone else, to possibly having the worst roster in the NHL.

Guy spends a couple of years in the ECHL and then busts out a 20-goal season in the AHL. Has never set foot on NHL ice.

I think the Red Wings will survive this tragic and unspeakable loss.
