The Canes have amassed a volume of picks by (1) only dabbling in the rental market as a contender (2) not being afraid to trade players for futures (Skinner, Faulk, Nedeljkovic, Bean, DeAngelo) and (3) trading down regularly.

How is HF feeling about this strategy? The Canes continue to have a top half type prospect pool despite late 1st round records, based on volume. However, they routinely get bad grades at the deadline as their inaction is seen as preventing ultimate success.

Yet they can’t get past the 2nd round more than once

You must be talking about the Oilers. Because the hurricanes have gotten to the ECF twice in the last 5 years, winning 7 playoff series in that span.
And they have never been close to winning a single Cup. Edmonton atleast has had a legit chance a few times but ran into the eventual Cup winner. Carolina is a RS juggernaut and that’s about it. Paper tigers.

Swept both times though…

Either way, their recent playoff history doesn’t have anything to do with their draft pick accumulating as the only guy from 2019 onwards who is a regular is Seth Jarvis (13th overall).

It all depends on how these picks turn out.

With that defense and goaltending Edmonton hasn’t had a legit chance anymore than Carolina. What an insane take.

Go ahead and ignore the fact that you were already wrong. But the Hurricanes have been just as close to the Oilers, and they've done it twice.

This is a terrible argument.

As for the rest of it, people who live in glass houses shouldn't undress, or something.

Oilers with their trash goaltending, 1 way forwards and questionable defence had a legit chance at the cup, not just once but a few times? They have never even sniffed a chance at winning a cup

I mean that is hella impressive

But I do suspect that at some point to get over the line, they're going to have to spend and spend to get over the top

we do the exact opposite in Vancouver

The perpetual death cycle that Aquilini has Vancouver in

1) Spend in free agency like a drunken sailor
2) proceed to question why they don't have cap space
3) spend picks to clear cap or use buyouts
4) wonder why have no cost controlled assets or draft picks
5) spend in free agency

and repeat, repeat, repeat
