I’ll keep this short because I’ve stated it way too many times.

He always choked in big games before the run to the final. That year he finally got through whatever mental block was causing that before. The Carey Price before then would have crumbled after that first bad game against TB.

No he isn’t one of the greatest goalies the Habs have ever had. In terms of longevity, sure. But not in terms of legacy and winning pedigree. There is a long list of guys ahead of him that he will never come close to.

If you are counting guys like Theodore, Hackett, Thibeault, Huet then sure he’s one of the greatest in comparison.

I didn’t want to rehash this, but your obnoxious post forced me to lmao.

Don't blame Price for his team not being able to score goals in playoffs years prior to the miracle run.

Face it. He IS done. He is for all intensive purposes retired. If he announces it, he leaves a hell of a lot of money on the table.

The man is 35 years old; the human body takes more and more time to heal as it ages. At 35, with a knee injury that hurts to climb and decline something as simple as a staircase, you can bet he isn't coming back. The surgery needed to repair this, has a 50% success rate, which are very unfavorable odds - what else is there to discuss?

For people saying he'll come back in two years, at 37 years old, after not playing for three years - have a word with yourself! If a 23 year old Suzuki was rusty after missing a training camp, imagine the rust from three years out of the game and following several major surgeries!
Yep. Great career and he'll definitely go to the HOF. But I think it's pretty clear he's done now. Our first legit superstar since Roy (Subban played like one while he was here as well) and it's sad to see him go.

That being said, his departure has opened the door to the rebuild which we badly needed. And I think we already have our next superstar in CC. We've got some great young prospects and Suzuki is really solid as well. I'm optimistic about the future of this club.

If somebody waves a wand and Price somehow comes back someday, so be it. But that's too much to expect and unfortunately we've probably seen the last of him.

Great end to a great career though. What an awesome run.

You're going to have elaborate on that, because that is a spicy take. And to the best of my knowledge isn't supported in the slightest in either the stats or just the games.

Price has some of the best underlying stats of goalie since we started tracking them and one thing that almost every modern hockey fan (not just Habs fans) knows is that when Price gets goal support, he almost always wins. He just never got any goal support.

Price knew he played his last game at the end of last season. Just look at his reaction when that game ended. He just wanted to salute the fans one last time. The team also knew and they played their heart out to get him the last win. I saw that game and I knew his career ended right there.

Do you remember that he almost bought us to the final too in 2014 before the Kreider incident ? Just 3 months after winning the Gold Medal at the Olympics while giving only 3 goals.

2024/25 Stanley Cup winning roster

#25 in 2025 here we come!

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
??????? - Dubois - Mesar
Ferrell - Beck - Anderson
Heineman - ????? - Roy

Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Xhecaj
Harris - Barron

Price
Primeau

Price comes back healthy for the 24/25 season and we win the cup! Then Price “retires” and everything is made whole. 🙏
Reality check time. Professional athletes Price's age do not sit out for three years, and then return to action - - and especially are not able to play at a championship level.

Are you for real? He literally has the most wins of anyone in franchise history…but somehow he doesn’t have a winning pedigree? He’s won Calder trophy, WJC, Olympics. The only thing he hasn’t is the cup and considering the teams he had in front of him, it’s not a surprise.

Okayyyyyy, you are definitely one of the fans who booed during preseason…

I think this is the first time that I unfortunately think it's a lot more likely he's done then not. I think I was in the "it's more likely he comes back then not" camp up until today's press conference, but at this point, yes, retirement seems most likely.

As an eternal optimist - I still think there's a chance he returns. But I'd say it's like a ~10-20% chance, as opposed to more than 50% likelihood.

Best case scenario:

- we land Bedard this year
- Carey Price returns full time for 2 more seasons starting next year.

Not saying this is going to happen - but if it somehow did - I could legitimately see us winning a cup in those 2 years with this young team backed by Price - and a desperate Price wanting a cup.

Oh, f*** off with that "couldn't be bothered" garbage.

Weber was on LTIR. He's not from Montreal, and has family and friends in BC. He was 100% sure he was not going to be playing. Why have him live in Montreal when he'd rather be elsewhere?

I doubt Price is going to spend the entire season in Montreal either. There's literally no point in doing that.
Heck, I’m from Montreal, and if it was just up to me, I’d also be spending as much time as I could around Kelowna. When you’re done your done, why stick around the team and be a distraction. Good for Price if he wants to stick around for the season, but people blaming him if he decides to head home is silly.

Nowhere land
Lemieux sat out 3 years....and he was still over a PPG
Not a good example. Today's level of play have increased. Before, there was 2 snypers in each team. Now they have 4 or 5. And also Lemieux is one of the ultimate hockey player who ever played the game. A generational exception. He's on the top with Orr, Gretzky, Messier and Lafleur.

We should not have this debate. Let's stick to what matters the most. When a player wants to heal, he can choose where he feels more confortable, it's personal.

You're going to have elaborate on that,
No, he really doesn't... it was a dumb post and let's leave it at that. Garbageyuk indeed.

And I hope to God we don't see that same nonsense with Caufield. Seems like some posters just like to trash our own guys. There will be a honeymoon phase but there's no doubt that in a few years we'll see guys trashing CC every game. It's just the way it is.

Look at Gallagher. Gave his heart and soul every night. He's busted up and some guys can't stop talking about how lazy he is. It's just ridiculous.

So no... we don't need elaboration on nonsense posts.

It's a nice dream... but I think it's just that, a dream.

Now for the first time in a long time, we don't really have a goalie. I hope Primeau can step up but if not him... Going to be interesting to see how that plays out. We've been so spoiled for so long.

Imagine if we build this great club and suddenly can't stop pucks from going in because the netminding isn't there. Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth? I don't want to become the next Philly.

Flaming right here buddy. Give yourself a warning. Surprised you’ve been on the site this long and still can’t handle opinions you don’t agree with like an adult.

Want to say a player is overrated? Sure. Want to say you don't think he deserves the HOF? I don't agree... but okay.

But to come in and say he's never won a big game? That's not opinion, it's trolling. It's like saying McDavid never scored a big goal.

Get out of the thread.

He’s a freak of nature. Carey is not, he’s done. I’d argue he’s been done for a few years now. His elite play has been gone for a handful of years. Fans can’t let go, he’s been done.

Price was money............absolute money in Game 7's of almost every series he ever played in.......the guy is the definition of winning in big games....with very very little run support out in front of him.

No surprise the odd troll comes running in here....

If you or your brother-in-law try to screw up insurance company for 2000$ it's a scandal and the insurance company will do everything to prove you're frauding them. But when it come with Price it's okay to screw up big money (10,5M) because CP have an huge fanclub behind him. The insurance company is happy to pay. Because if they don't, they'll have an huge negative publicity.

But shhhht ! let's pretend I didn't wrote this because I'm in the land of his diehard fans.
