Price just said, barring a miracle, he's done. Nothing new but always sad to hear it. Career cut too short.
It certainly sounds like it
Even IF he gets to the point of daily free pain walking around,
The SECOND he snaps pads back on and starts playing goalie again going up and down
That pain probably comes back the day OF
Just really dont see how he plays again sadly..

If he knows he will not play again, or he doesn't want to risk to live with pain for the rest of his life if he returns, why don't he just retire?

1. It does not sound like he knows he will not play again.
2. No sane person would forgo the money he's due to be paid.
3. There's a legitimate reason he can't play.

He’s eligible to the remaining bajillion dollars because he got injured while playing for the Hab. His injury is legitimate and verified so the insurance company is covering a portion of it and the Habs the rest. Why would he give that up?

I don't know the details of his injury but I always assumed surgery was off the table simply because of timelines and recovery. If he isn't planning on returning any time soon why avoid surgery? Again, not knowing his specific issue, but Selanne was done, completely done, and had reconstructive knee surgery during the 2004 lockout. He came back, had back to back 40 goal seasons and played another 9 seasons.
Everything is possible. We are not doctors and we don't have the doctor's reports. It depends on each case. But he is getting old, tic-tac, tic-tac, time is running.

I didn't mind Weber not being around the team, however, he should have been at the opening game, just like Carey did. At least to salute the fans for the last time, especially after the Cup run they did a few months before.

You may colour this as you want, but to me, it was pretty much a "I don't care attitude". He was the freaking captain for xsake.

Specially at the salary those guys got. People are acting like those guys travel in economy class. It's nothing for them to take the plane first class no line and be there for a night and go back home the day after. People are acting like it would be some sort of terrible sacrifice nobody would ever do. Give me a break ...

He need a other surgery but to have a shot at playing hockey again and he is worried about is quality of life so he is opting not to have surgery but he isn’t pain free right now… Even if the surgery is only successful 50% of the time, the 50% it fail it doesn’t mean is situation will be worst than it is right now he might not be able to play hockey but it could improve… By saying he isn’t going to have the surgery he is saying that he isn’t going to be playing hockey again but he isn’t retiring.

I mean, the media want to talk to him. It's not to be any new information, but it isn't a waste of time.

When was the last time big news was broken in a press conference anyway? In the 90s before the Internet was as widespread?
If this doesn’t disturb you? Nothing will.

Oh, f*** off with that "couldn't be bothered" garbage.

Weber was on LTIR. He's not from Montreal, and has family and friends in BC. He was 100% sure he was not going to be playing. Why have him live in Montreal when he'd rather be elsewhere?

I doubt Price is going to spend the entire season in Montreal either. There's literally no point in doing that.

Well first off no one said anything about Weber or Price living in Montreal, Shea could have shown up for some specific things but he couldn't be bothered. It's not even necessarily bad of him or required but why get your back up about the statement and tell the guy to f*** off lol?

Weber literally couldn't be bothered, not that anyone would care to hear from him on anything like Lafleur passing or the state of the team anyway. Weber's a goof if anyone should f*** off it's him. Maybe he'll show up in Vegas.

It’s actually hilarious that a moderator would feel defensive enough about Weber not being bothered to care to make an appearance in Montreal to tell me to f*** off. I assumed he was just in a bad mood about the Padres getting humiliated.

It’s always confused me why this bothered people. Weber knew he was too hurt to ever play again. He was on Robidas island and handled it like pretty much every other player in the league that’s in his situation does. He wasn’t around the team nor was he obligated to be so why should he take the responsibility of being around for any team functions? Would it have been a cool moment to see him wave to the fans at the opener? Sure. Does it matter in the grand scheme of things? Not at all. This whole thing got blown so far out of proportion. The only reason Carey Price is doing things the way he is because his entire legacy is here in Montreal.

Nah man, that's weird. The whole way his retirement was handled was. He was the captain of the Habs even though he was injured, he easily could have shown up at the start of the season and taken part in the ceremony, the city would have loved him for it. Instead there's this weird animosity about the end of his story, odd decision with no communication at all.

I guess he's not obligated to do anything but that is a fairly big screw you to the fans, I think many people feel that way. Price has been 10 times as transparent and graceful with his injury situation. At least we know the likelihood of him playing again, with Shea we just figured it out eventually after not hearing anything for the whole year.

Oh... that's not good. I didn't listen to the presser so not sure what details were shared. Let me re-phrase - if I am not physically impaired and can carry on with life normally, I would be ok with getting 10M a year and not play.

TBH - I hope Price takes next 2 seasons off (2023, 2024) and comes back in 2025 when Habs are ready to push for the cup. How is that for a plan?
Hey I’d take that as well. If Price can ever find his grove again after surgery, he’s worth the gamble. Look Price is the only reason we haven’t been bottom feeders for the past decade ++. He’s had incompetence coaching and leading his career since we picked him 5th overall. The thoughts of him returning in a couple of years to his prime with a roster full of kids….well it’s storybook & I’m old enough to remember storybook endings with this team.
Cheers

It seems like our players deserve to get paid more for the extra responsibility they have with the needy media and fans. It’s not weird at all to do what he did. When players aren’t around a team because of a long term injury, they feel like they’re not apart of it at all, which is probably how Weber felt. Especially since he was in BC. He wasn’t really the captain as he wasn’t around the team and the franchise knew he was never going to play again. If anything that falls on management for not being more transparent on the whole situation.
