Confirmed Signing with Link: [CAR] Victor Rask re-signs (6 years, $4M AAV)

 $24 million???

For a guy who has scored 21 goals in his 2nd NHL season, under 50 points, doesn't hit or block shots, is a mid 2nd rounder to begin with, has played under 17 minutes a night (12th in ice time among Canes skaters) for a non-playoff team?

The hope must be that the 23 year old will develop some more and prove to be more than a tweener (not good enough to be a 2nd liner on a playoff team, but good enough to be a top-9 forward for an average team.

The signing is not by any means 'great'. It may turn out to be okay. Or two years from now he may be an overpaid 15 minutes a night 15-goal scoring, non-physical forward to be shipped to expansion Vegas along with a higher pick to unload his contract.

Yeah, vippe. You are Swedish, he is Swedish. We get your optimism. But there's no hard evidence that he's worth a 6-year deal at the moment. "Solid" is not exactly the right adjective.

How is this not a solid deal? He is a 4M player right now. With upside, I cant think of another word than solid. Me being swedish has nothing to do with that.

I feel so bad for Canes fans, they've seen some crap product on ice lately if they consider Victor freaking Rask a low-end 1C. By the way, numbers don't back up his mythical 2-way ability.

Is there anyone here who hasn't said Rask is currently a 2C?

I tend to agree that the claims about his two-way game are a little overstated here. That being said, he's not a bad defender.

Interesting....just to summarize the accuracy above:

"Dead last" = 18th of 30
"handing out contracts all willy nilly"- Longest and highest dollar amount in I believe 3 years. Since Semin contract and that was the last dumbass GM

Please continue....

Pretty sure Roboturner is just practicing the patented canes sarcasm.

A very nice deal. He is already a solid #2C and 4 million for a #2C is extremely good value. I doubt he'll ever become a first line center, but even if he stays at his current level this is a good contract. If he improves it'll become a steal of a contract.

Wooooosh.

somehow, given the tone of your post, I don't think you really feel that bad at all.

By the way, numbers don't back up his mythical 2-way ability.

What's mythical? Nobody said he's Bergeron, or even Jordan Staal at this point. But he's certainly competent and does a lot of the little things right, on both sides of the ice.

Time to do the quick test:

1 milion for 10 points is the going rate for contracts. Rask is getting 4 million, so expected to get 40 points. If he gets more, good contract. Gets less than 40, a bit of an overpay.

Seeing how he got 48 last year, looks like a good deal to me.

As a general rule of thumb I think the higher the point total, the more a 10 point increase will cost, ie going from 10 to 20 will cost less than going from 60 to 70.

But I agree this is a good deal right now, with the potential to become a "steal", which is the important point here. This is the only way, outside of ELC's, to get players on contracts that they are outperforming without really giving up assets

And people think this org is headed for a possible last place finish.

Carolina has had a really impressive turnaround. They're going to be good and for quite a while.

Uh...the meme I posted before was talking about my own perceived stupidity. It was a joke. I wasn't calling anybody else stupid. Just me.

let me add the belated :sarcasm:

Columbus will finish last in the Metro, Philly, NJ, and Car will fight it out for 2nd to last.

Question to me is how many UFA years does this eat up?

I guess in the end it doesn't really matter anyway to Carolina because they're nowhere near the ceiling anyway and it could pay off if he really develops the next few years.

This is the kind of deal you can make when you have plenty of room under the cap.
