yeah. 35+ contracts count in full towards the cap even if they are bought out, though the team saves actual dollars. hurricanes have $22m in cap space even with the $6.25m hit, so it's not a big deal.

This isn't true. If you have an opportunity to bring in someone in a depth role for the minimum which should be the case here, it won't affect anything else.

Why should it be? It's up to Marleau to play as long as he wants and there are teams willing to bring him in. He wants to play beyond this upcoming season and likely will.
