They could have talked to him first. I'm guessing they didn't because they're trying to be clever and pay rental prices for an extended guy. Almost worked for Guentzel, didn't it. If that's the case I don't think that's coming from Tulsky.

But if the guys response to getting traded to a place he doesn't want to be is to sulk and half-ass it, then yes, screw him, get him off the team. Good bye.
Necas was not a rental price though, not even close

You can't really talk to them though, that would be considered tampering. Unless the players agent is the one being subversive and actively hindering a team as Rants agent appears to have done

Based on earlier reports, Colorado didn’t permit Tulsky to speak with Rantanen ahead of the trade. And understandably so, as it would have tanked the trade and created a circus internally and externally for the Avs.

Tulsky was willing to take the risk and swing at a big talent, and openly expressed that he was comfortable with the possibility that Rantanen would walk away. The one thing that he really couldn’t have anticipated was Rantanen’s poor play and shitty attitude. I have a hard time faulting Tulsky for that, as one would expect a player of Rantanen’s caliber and monetary demands to step up and make the most of the situation.

Rantanen has given me bad vibes for years. I did hope him success with the Canes and now I hope him the best with Dallas. That is only because he is a Finn though. I just don't like him. I don't know if he makes my top 10 favourite Finns in the NHL, probably not. Just dislike his game, just the way he acts and everything.

Dundon so cheap

full value wound up being stankoven and a couple 1sts -- Necas is worth that or more easily.

It’s true that Necas is worth more, but we were the ones trying to get rid of him. That naturally brings the price down a bit.

Honestly, landing Rantanen for him pretty incredible. Everyone’s cranky because of the way it played out, but that was a mega-brain move by Tulsky.

If you look back at the summer, it’s a lot more than the rumored Necas deals.

Yes, he improved his stock a lot in 24-25. Just like he did in 22-23. We are all aware of how streaky Necas is and Carolina sold him at a high value.

Correct, and the reality is that Tulsky did a great job with also not falling for the sunk cost fallacy. When the guy we picked up clearly did not want to play for the Hurricanes, we got fantastic asset capital for him, more than what Necas would've received in a trade last offseason.

One of the great unanswered questions in all of this — how much influence did Tom Dundon have on the process?

From the small bread crumbs of info we have, it feels like the sort of situation where Dundon reads Tulsky’s quote about letting Rantanen walk as a UFA, and just keeps saying “make this make sense to me” until Tulsky changes his mind.

Like a lot of things with the Canes, it's almost certainly a team effort.

It's ridiculous how he has been a void of interest in Finland in general, like the press had just agreed that he doesn't exist, regardless of his numbers.

Kind of makes you wonder, how easy it was in the end for the organization that he had played for years and years with those kind of numbers to just cut him off at this point. Everyone everywhere just seem to decide that this guy is not worth of our time.

It's just sad that fans blame a player, Rantanen was traded to Carolina, without any control of his own.... I would like to know how many of you would treat that same situation as it would be your own fault... You didn't ask to be traded to McDonald's but burger King flipped you, but because of the trade, everybody hates you because they feel that you are greedy.... Wtf... I hope Rantanen kicks your behind just because your unreasonable loyalty cravings... Everyone made decisions based on the financials, but only the millionaire is the bad one, none of the billionaires who actually traded people... Sportsfans are just emotionally to invested to make rational decisions.

Indeed, No one considers him to be the best Finnish NHL player even though he has produced the most points. There is just something about him that makes it seem like he didn't maybe deserve all the points he has scored over the years. He is a good player, but in my opinion he wasn't even worth that 12m a year. Maybe 8-9 at most.

I don't blame him for the trade stuff, but his perfomance as a Avs member has been disappointing after the SC win and he has disappointing on Finnish national team. He just hasn't been as good as he used to be. He got so used to getting everything handed to him from MacKinnon who stepped up his game and Makar. Rantanen just stopped wanting to improve and he is just super meh on the ice now. His personality is just something I am not a fan of either.

Fans don't need to be rational always. Comes with the territory. As long as we aren't directly harassing or threatening, then who cares?
