They could have talked to him first. I'm guessing they didn't because they're trying to be clever and pay rental prices for an extended guy. Almost worked for Guentzel, didn't it. If that's the case I don't think that's coming from Tulsky.

But if the guys response to getting traded to a place he doesn't want to be is to sulk and half-ass it, then yes, screw him, get him off the team. Good bye.
Necas was not a rental price though, not even close

You can't really talk to them though, that would be considered tampering. Unless the players agent is the one being subversive and actively hindering a team as Rants agent appears to have done

Based on earlier reports, Colorado didn’t permit Tulsky to speak with Rantanen ahead of the trade. And understandably so, as it would have tanked the trade and created a circus internally and externally for the Avs.

Tulsky was willing to take the risk and swing at a big talent, and openly expressed that he was comfortable with the possibility that Rantanen would walk away. The one thing that he really couldn’t have anticipated was Rantanen’s poor play and shitty attitude. I have a hard time faulting Tulsky for that, as one would expect a player of Rantanen’s caliber and monetary demands to step up and make the most of the situation.

Rantanen has given me bad vibes for years, I did hope him success with the Canes and now I hope him the best with Dallas. That is only because he is a Finn though. I just don't like him. I don't know if he makes my top 10 favourite Finns in the NHL, probably not. Just dislike the game, just the way he acts and everything.

full value wound up being stankoven and a couple 1sts -- Necas is worth that or more easily.

It’s true that Necas is worth more, but we were the ones trying to get rid of him. That naturally brings the price down a bit.

Honestly, landing Rantanen for him pretty incredible. Everyone’s cranky because of the way it played out, but that was a mega-brain move by Tulsky.

Correct, and the reality is that Tulsky did a great job with also not falling for the sunk cost fallacy. When the guy we picked up clearly did not want to play for the Hurricanes, we got fantastic asset capital for him, more than what Necas would've received in a trade last offseason.
