i think the avs need someone to battle in front of the net. you can do drouin-mack or mack-necas but all 3 together might need to be broken up. they skated circles around the bruins but had no one in front of the net to capitalize.

I like this trade for Colorado. Cheaper, younger player and now they have cap space for more adds. Necas is going to go from 18min/gm to 23min/gm and playing with Mack he'll get a boost in numbers.

The window with Macks age is the near future, not years 6,7,8.

With Mack/Rants/Makar it’s all about winning the next few seasons

You don’t pay normal players but franchise/supestar players you absolutely do

It’s much easier to create cap space than acquire a superstar in his prime, much much easier

Then how is he going to be a 100 point player next to Mack?

If he’s all that he’s supposed to be it’s time to pay him superstar money.

Not a damm chance 90-100 point player settles for 2nd line money
I agree. Mack is from the 2013 draft, and turns 30 in 2025. Sid turned 30 in 2017 when the Pens last won the Cup. When you have elite talent, you push in during their prime years. Worry about the decline later.

Were the Avs using Mack's $12.6 mill as their bar vs Rant using the Matthews/Drai deals which are higher to then slot himself under?

That’s not true

Tkachuk was a top tier talent at the time of the trade

My issue with the trade was the added 1st round pick, other than that it was a home run trade from the start
Top tier talent that only had ONE PPG season previously while the other had 115 points and crushed PPG for four seasons prior.

Tkachuk was also viewed a sub par playoff performer prior to Florida.

People have recency bias, I swear

Also, how do you seem to know more about Rants than Colorado fans that have been watching him since he became an NHLer. Most of what you see from Avs fan isn’t cope. This has been repeated over and over again on the Avs board.

Soooo you think the Chicago Blackhawks care about saving money? It's bad asset management pain and simple. You retain on rant get a3rd. You trade hall at the deadline and retain get another 3rd.
That leaves the hawks with zero ability to trade anyone else with retention and they have at least one asset better than Hall at 3M worth a late 3rd.

Also they want to call someone up now, not at the deadline.

What a stupid trade.... Colorado traded a top 3 winger for a 60 pts player.

Colorado ain't winning in the playoff this year without Rantanen.

Because I’ve been watching long before he step into the NHL

& I thought at the time that the 1st round pick didn’t make sense but anyday Tkachuk over Hubs

Tkachuk was way younger at the time, 24 I believe and hadn’t had time to have a better CV but he was certainly considered as a franchise forward

You read this thread and you come out of it thinking Rantanen must be the luckiest consistent 100 point player the league has seen

Well he’s not that good anymore, was on pace for career high, well he’s lazy= back to back 100 point seasons and I believe a record for goals scored in a season?

He’s lazy in the playoffs, one of the best playoffs point producers in the league, he wasn’t that big during their Cup run= 25 points in 20 games

Give me a break

You realize its not just that easy to play top pair defensive pair minutes game after game and keep elite level of play?

Yep, when Mack is at a point where Crosby is now it doesn’t matter if Rants is his Malkin next to him at the time

It would have meant they had a better chance at competing for Cups during their window

The Avs were feared because of trio of Mack/Rants/Makar. They aren’t anymore the same

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. There's a reason Necas wasn't playing with Aho. He's kind of a one man show, and did his best work away from top pair defenders with two grinders fetching the puck for him and going to the net. Seems like Mckinnon already does what Necas does.

they did not retain on hall. nobody would take hall at 6m even with retention of three m

at the very least the avs should play necas on the 2nd line until he gets his conditioning up. hard to go from 18m a night to 23m a night on top of playing in attitude. if he works on his own line then the avs can roll 2 lines.
