Confirmed Trade: [CAR/COL/CHI] Mikko Rantanen (50%), Taylor Hall, Nils Juntorp to CAR; Martin Necas, Jack Drury, '25 2nd, '26 4th to COL; '25 3rd to CHI for retention

Oh yeah for sure

One is a true superstar and one of the best playoff producers in the league

But I guess this has nothing to do with the reality and all about the country
And Hall won a Hart so he must be the best player in the trade, right? 1OV too!

Maybe compare Rants 26 year old season with Necas 26 year old season. they are not the same age.

Or you know, look at the current season happening.

It will be interesting to see how Rants looks away from Mack/Makar and with Aho. It'll also be interesting to see how Necas looks with those 2.

Time will tell. I think it's closer than most. They both have 30 games left on their new teams roughly. I doubt we see a massive difference in points. I can't wait to compare their playoff points too! We shall see.

You can still be a Rantanen fan, as you always were. Why do you care what the Avs do?

Yeah I’m glad Mikko got dealt to probably my favorite team and fanbase out East. Will be pulling hard for him and the Canes. I mean, I’ll always want Rantanen to have success but if it had to be elsewhere, for me anyways….its a good spot. If he is as productive as he always is in the playoffs, he’s gonna help Carolina get over the hump.

Because it’s amazing to watch how quickly the fans turn against their players

A superstar in his prime gets traded, the next thing ”well he wasn’t that good anyways”

Colorads F group has been all about Mack& Rants, now 50% of it is gone but not a big deal

With most teams I'd assume giving up a signed player the caliber of Necas for a rental means 13-14M x 8yrs is coming for Rantanen, in this case not so sure.

We saw them move on from a costly acquisition in Guentzel last season, who seemed like a great fit. Dundon plays hardball.. so who knows.

Based off what? Uh how about the lack of evidence supporting successful returns to elite sport after this surgery. Do you even know anything about meniscus replacement surgery or the literature that exists?

I do. A lack of evidence doesn’t suggest anything, so unsure why you are suggesting he’s most likely done.

Unless Rantanen doesn't fit into Rods system, Carolina will give an open cheque to Rantanen. I see 8 years. After losing Guentzel last year, there's no way they make the same mistake again.
No way, Jose. The Canes don't operate like that. Rantanen is there to try and get them over the cusp this year. They draft/develop/coach players so well in that organization that they'll just spend the money internally that would be given to Rantanen.

Giving Rants 14M+ a year was not the play from the Avs point of view, he is not worth that when you have Makar right behind then using that as a "base" and adding a million or two because he is worth that much more than Rants. Avs went the depth route, shall see what else they have planned

If Rantanen wants to compete for another cup, he needs to take a discount in Colorado. It looks like he's going after the money instead. But who would be rather play with for the next several years? MacKinnon and Makar or Aho and Gostisbehere.

He'd be more bummed if Avs let Rantanen walk in offseason and got nothing in return

I don't think players think that way. Unless MacKinnon is sitting in on Colorado's pro meetings.

You don't think a guy as competitive as MacKinnon thinks they have a shot at the cup this season?

I'm not trashing Colorado btw, I think Necas is a heck of a player & it was a real solid move to recoup a guy like him for Rantanen if they can't sign him & don't think they can win this year. I'm sure MacKinnon will be fine moving forward but I cant imagine he's happy seeing his right hand man go today.

You should probably factor in the rest of the team as well. Carolina hasn’t been a 3 man show. Colorado has for a couple of years now.

They can’t think that way. Playoffs aren’t guaranteed for any player and their career can be completely stunted at any moment for a multitude of reasons. They all want to win today more than they want to win tomorrow. Dynasty’s are for armchair GMs.
