Seems like nothing set in stone yet, but if it is indeed the package they get for Mikko, it is a downgrade since the money Mikko would want is spent now anyways...
I'm betting JR....he has been playing on the 4th line lately and after his hot start he has played meh.....this would be Burning2....try the player and then move at mid season if not a fit.

Kotkaniemi is not as bad as people are making him out to be.
Cap is about to be 100 million. Big players take longer with their development. I'm not saying he is going to be the big game changing 1C that Montreal has needed for the last three decades, but I could easily see him being a nice add on a playoff TV. It gives Colorado another big body who can score.
It's absolute robbery by the Hurricanes, but if Colorado made this trade, my guess is that Rantanen was adamant that he wanted to test the market and get what he is worth. You don't trade franchise players like this unless you're forced to.

Without an extension that's a pretty good return for Colorado tbh. Losing Rantanen is a gut punch though. Can't believe the Avs couldn't get an extension done.

I think this guarantees Rantanen is a rental and will walk in the off season. People are saying the Canes make out but they’re giving away Necas a year earlier than they maybe had to and getting nothing for it.
The Canes needed a 2C, and now we have downgraded to Drury playing 2C instead of KK.
