Who knows what this actually means though lol...if he's skating it is a good sign. If he's just wandering around could be god knows
It’s been a week since the injury, if he had a bad concussion he would be in a dark room at home. The fact he is FaceTiming and visiting the boys at the rink is huge. That’s what this means. Best case scenario

I think it's for sure possible the injury looked a lot worse then it was.

If he does come back here's my lines.

Folingo-Matthews-Marner
Hyman-Tavares-Mikheyev
Galchenyuk-Kerfoot-Nylander
Thornton-Engvall-Spezza

Honestly I would put Tavares on the 3rd or 4th line at first, slowly ease back into 2nd line in Game 2 or 3 of whatever series we're in

I like it but I feel we gotta keep Simmonds in. He is seriously a pain to deal with physically for the opposition. He's been all up in Montreal's face and will do the same with the Jets should we get through (fingers crossed). Very tough decision but almost feel like it has to be Engvall over Simmonds who sits :(. So above lines, but 4th line goes back to Grumpy old men.

The way Kerfoot is playing if he keeps it up, I honestly think its a 1A-1B-1C situation plus Grumpy old men line.

Sorry your right, forgot Simmonds. Switch Engvall and Simmonds. Spezza can play 4th line C.

It means his concussion isn't as bad as it could have been. With terrible concussions you have to sit in a dark room all day. If he's out and hanging out with the team at the rink he's clearly not in a worse case scenario. Either way this is great news

I had a bad concussion 13 years ago (I still don't remember the incident) and I was okay a couple of days after in terms of not feeling sick/headaches. But even then I was told nothing physical for two weeks.

But after that, I was all good and allowed to head a football again.

With JT being a supreme athlete, you'd think his powers of recovery will be better. Here's hoping Leafs get he job done next game out and then go out hard against Winnipeg and there's some prospect of JT to give the team some momentum to get the job done so he can look at getting involved.

I have had a concussion before and I couldnt drive for about 10 days. Was still getting dizzy spells and such.

The fact he was at the rink, interacting with the team says a lot. He didnt travel to Montreal but was seen on Facetime with the team as they left the ice both victories.

Best case scenario is that he will be out 2 weeks with the knee issue and be back shortly after. Its been a week already, so does he make a comeback 2nd round of playoffs. Hope so. If so here are my lines, and Gally stays in the lineup:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Gally-Tavares-Nylander
Foligno-Kerfoot-Micheyev
Thornton-Spezza-Simmonds

Engvall although he has played well will have to sit. But having him and Nash readily available is great depth for a long playoff run.

Don't want to jump the gun or get my hopes up too much, but possible he's back middle of round 2 (assuming leafs put this away with the habs)
He needs to go on a hard skate for 40 minutes in a week or so once his knee is healed to know for sure .. sometimes you can have no symptoms at home but exert yourself to your max and you can't .. I have seen it happen .. even just a skate at leisure pace means nothing unless he is testing his knee

Your right. But I am sure that he will be exerting himself on a stationary bike first to strengthen the knee ailment. That will be the first test. Once he passes that, he will hit the ice. My prediction is he's back on the ice by this weekend.

Ya if he’s FaceTiming on the phone, and actually at the arena this doesn’t seem like too severe a concussion. Like others have mentioned, it’s bad when you need to be in a dark room and can’t have any screen time and when there’s dizziness and nausea.

He’s been out 1 week already, I say he’s back after 3 weeks.

It's a positive sign for sure but it's better to keep him out.. if by week 3 he's okay to play, keep him out another week or 2 for precaution and just have him practice until he feels 100%.

I think I had well over 10 concussions over my career .. but nothing was diagnosed back then .. in fact almost everyone I played with likely played through more than 1 esp us fighters .. I can't tell you da number of times I puked my guts at various US hotels over da years and how many headaches I had of migraine variety where I took pain medication to tolerate it .. and outside of a few shifts here and there when i took a flying elbow to head behind net where I did not see it coming .. I did not miss a game .. we all thought it was a bad cold/flu something .. point is thousands of pro hockey players over da years have played through much much worse .. now I am not saying modern meds are bad .. thank god for them .. it keeps players more healthy .. even more important da softness in today's game has really helped to reduce da number and severity of concussions .. but to say he will be out for 6 months is a total guess .. I would bet if not for leg injury he could already be back .. thank god he has no nausea or headaches lets hope it stays that way .. good bet he is back for round 2

That may be true but back in the day people were unaware of CTE and early onset dementia. Precautionary measures and testing is much more rigorous than it was even 10 years ago. That's why fighting is mostly out of the game. It's the massive insurance costs. Concussion testing is now standard protocol and JT will be getting evaluated every week. I would be very surprised if he's cleared and back for the next round.

I wouldn't be reading too much into facetiming. You can facetime with a headache.

He really should be sitting the whole playoffs. You don’t want to take chances with concussions.

Will depend on whether or not he is completely asymptomatic. There is evidence that return to activity can actually help reduce long term problems. If he is still having any symptoms with activity, he should not play though- the consequences of a second concussion while still healing from the first can be very bad
