No RFA’s to sign yet, Hutson isn’t far off from a contract

Tre is a fantastic RFA negotiator but there is no way you are getting Knies signed for less than 4M.

Montreal has significant money coming off the books the next few offseasons plus the cap is (so far) expected to keep going up. Paying Hutson (even in the 8 figure AAV range) wont be an issue.

Yup.
In fact, Montreal always seemed to be planning on spending a lot in 2025, and the rising cap is bad news as it means there will be more competition from other teams that would otherwise be cap constrained.

Yeah, I would say that the Leafs are in one of the most precarious situation in the league. You're pretty much forced to either move on from Marner and try to replace him in free agency (you can't) or run back the exact same team.

I also think getting Tavares and Knies for $11 mil is incredibly optimistic.

Pretty much everyone has cap space for next year. But that's exactly the problem. Everyone looks like they have money to throw around...on paper...but when that's the scenario, it's going to take a lot more money than people expect to do even the most basic signings, because there's always going to be multiple teams out there with lots of cap space of their own to take shots at anyone they might want to sign. So that cap space is going to disappear quickly, for the teams that actually land the free agents they want.

I'm expecting a bridge deal. Our window is next 3 seasons of Matthews contract.

That is where the Leafs graduate prospects. Robertson won't be expensive to re-sign, we have Cowan likely making the NHL, and it's not hard to find cheap gambles in UFA Leafs have been doing it for years to fill in 4th line roles if needed (I think we are good there with prospects).

It's not 14-15m for all of that it is nearly 30M for all of that btw

I merely pointed out, that 14-15 million is split between Marner, and 2-3 additional forwards.
This does not include the 11 million you allocated to Knies and JT.
So it is not a crap ton of cap space, once it’s spent.

You are talking about literal 4th liners with those players. As I said, Leafs already have prospects they can use to fill these roles. The 14-15M is not counting giving 4th liners a raise because it should be easy to replace them
 
Habs will project to have 23M in capspace (including Price's LTIR) with 20 players on the roster (assuming mediocre raises for Heineman, Struble, Dobes and Demidov's entry level deal. They will need a veteran bottom pairing dman and a 2C if they can upgrade on Dach.

This assumes Armia, Savard, Pezetta and Dvorak all walk (as they should).

I think you should expect a bridge deal but it's not going to be under 4M, and Tavares isn't going to get less than 7M (refer to Stamkos). That's 11M right there and I would bet both get more than that

If Toronto has another poor playoffs I wouldn't be surprised if they cut ties with JT in favor of someone like Bennett or bringing back Kadri, or something. AFP Analytics projects them at ~4Mx2, and ~8Mx3 respectively, and Marner at 12.6M

The point is we don't need to bring either back. But we can bring both back or some combination of one of them and new players. Lots of flexibility.

Knies is not getting more than 4M on a bridge deal. I would expect he gets a 7AAV deal with term right now. 4M x 2 years most likely.

Tavares is not getting an albatross Stamkos deal from us
 
Sharks have about 45 million in cap space, an that includes 8 million to unofficially retired but not LTIRed Logan Couture and another 4 in retention.

Basically they have about 30 million spent on their actual roster

Yes when I say 3 million for the rest, at that number they are 4th liners.
(which sounds like you agree with).

So not a ton of a cap space. I’m just using the numbers and players you provided earlier , and then added in the remainder. Seems like your argueing with yourself now, for no reason lol.

Why do you always need to nitpick my comments? You know what I mean. The Leafs can bring back the same team minus Marner and Tavares. Meaning they can spend what they do not on the 4th line next year and be fine.

At the beginning of the year poster thought 4-4.5 million x 8 would get it done for Knies, most everyone said would be more lol.
