Post-Game Talk: Habs lose, eliminated from playoffs.

And we care...why?

Primeau is being let go at the end of the year and Fowler is the future of the franchise

Tell me what mattered more, Fowler or Primeau getting game 1 of the playoffs?

I just think it's kinda funny is all. Dude was about to go on a playoff run as a starter then gets called up in an elimination game only to cede his crease to a kid who's only been on the team for a few weeks

An aside but man Dubois sucks. Selfish lazy player I wouldn't want him anywhere near the habs. He'd coast and do nothing in the playoffs

It's incredible because when he gives a f***, he is unstoppable. But he almost never gives a f***.

Habs this year reminded me a bit of the Bolts in 2014.

Young, very inexperienced, full of talent. Not there yet, but definetly on the upswing.

Ah well, sucks that it ended so quickly, but i feel we have plenty of good things to.look forward to.

Marinaro, Nilan and McGuire are also agreeing the Xhekaj was neutered to the detriment of the team. Nilan says Xhekaj's hands were tied probably by the coaches resulting in hesitation in every aspect of his game.

I feel like games 1 and 4 we're very winnable for us and we just didn't get the breaks.

But our young team got a huge amount of experience that is going to help them immediately.

Add some vets with size, a RHD, a 2C and this team is a legit threat. Not to mention the potential of Laine adding secondary scoring. Lots of good times ahead.

MAYBE.....just maybe....this isn't the 80s and X just isn't that good a player. He's a unique one, but his ceiling is very low.

Xhekaj starts running around when he feels like the team is getting bitch slapped.

Once the line up gets tougher and more punishing on the forecheck, he will fully focus on hockey and only intervene when Florian insults another man's wife.

Or maybe... just maybe, it is still ok to have a player that can play dirty and give out questionable hits and yes, take a penalty for it, but to have other teams think twice going across the blue line or being near the goalie. Will it deter every time? No... But maybe, just maybe, some time it will... and the only reason he isn't playng well because he is afraid as hell to make a mistake and get benched.

So maybe, just maybe, St Louis can pull a plug out of his ass and cut Xhekaj some slack.

No you're pinning your hopes and dreams on a borderline NHLer, while baselessly attacking a great coach.

I think MSL prefers winning/making the playoffs.... Lucky for us.

I think we had the best player on the ice with Hutson through all 5 games. He was incredible.
Seriously?

I've restrained from criticizing Hutson, because an undersized pup like him does not deserve it after his first playoff series, but what's with the myth creation?

He was a liability defensively, both directly responsible for multiple goals against, as well as one of the reasons we couldn't break up the Caps cycle.

That's fine at this point. He'll learn. But let's be realistic in our evaluation of where this team is at.

He will need to have stronger team alongside him so that he doesn't bear the brunt of all the physical play. The dude was beaten and it's a miracle that he still played relatively well. And yes, he'll learn for sure and likely adjust as well and likely learn to avoid some of the targeting... but also... he will be targeted more next season because of what he has achieved this season. All of the young good players on this team ABSOLUTELY need some big strong guys around them. Management cannot not see it... And they better address it before the next season.

I'll worry about a Hutson's modest limitations or a Reinbacher's ceiling later. For now, I'm ecstatic to say goodbye to Armia/Dvorak/Savard (& Pezzetta lmao) and to be one year closer to the end of Anderson/Gallagher's contracts.

Whatever the future holds may it have some edge, speed, and above average IQ.

It’s been easy lifting until now for HuGo, now the real hard work begins …

TBay showed tremendous promise in 2013, couldn’t take it to the next level for another 7 years.

Make Beliefs were in this exact spot with more top end talent in 2018…
Very important points.

"The future is bright" narrative is all well and good, but we are now entering the proper "build" phase, which is so much more difficult than the "liquidation/asset acquisition" phase.

We got Ovi'dou

This is the phase Bergevin failed miserably at. He had the core in 2013 and never did anything with it. I think Hughes more or less has his core now give or take a few pieces. It’s going to be interesting to see how he fills the roster out, especially with some of these bad contracts finally expiring in the next year or so.
