Post-Game Talk: Caps

I think Mika should've taken an shot at some point there in OT - The pass simply wasn't available. He chose the pass, and the Caps happened to score on their chance. Shit happens. I thought they played a pretty good game otherwise, wasn't terribly mad that they lost.

The real issue was 1 shot on and not converting the gifted double minor. PP was 0/4 with 3 shots. Gross.

NYR PP has been 15% since coming back from 4N (2/22). 7 games, 3 for 20 with 26 shots. Granted, just 1 more goal turns that 15% to 20% which looks/sounds nicer so is 3/20 really that alarming in that timespan all things considered? I'd imagine this is part of the ebb and flow of things. Although when I was looking at the PP stats, the shot attempts for/against jumped out at me.

2/22 - 1 for 4 with 8 PP shots. Lost to BUF 8-2. Shots were 33-28 BUF. NYR had ~65 total shot attempts, BUF had ~55
2/23 - 1 for 1 with 1 shot. Beat PIT 5-3. Shots were 40-16 PIT. NYR had 30 attempts, PIT had 80
2/25 - 0 for 1 with 1 shot. Beat NYI 5-1. Shots were 37-18 NYI. NYR had 45 attempts, NYI had 80
2/28 - 0 for 3 with 4 shots. Lost to TOR 3-2. Shots were 35-16 NYR. NYR had 80 attempts, TOR had 40
3/2 - 1 for 5 with 5 shots. Beat NSH 4-0. Shots were 34-34. NYR had 60 attempts, NSH had 75
3/3 - 0 for 2 with 4 shots. Beat NYI 4-0. NYR had 75 attempts, NYI had 55
3/5 - 0 for 4 with 3 shots. Lost in OT to WSH 3-2. Attempts were even, both in the low 60s

Again I'd imagine the shot fluctuation is to be expected, but it's just a weird distribution. Winning games while getting nearly doubled and tripled up on total shot attempts in a game, losing games while having an edge on shot attempts and almost completely suppressing the other team's SOG. It's shit like this that reminds me to just enjoy watching the games cuz what the f*** does any of it matter when trying to "predict" outcomes.

They still don't generate enough, so it's try to win 2-1, or probably just lose.

Miller has been a good add but he's nothing to write home about 5 on 5. He never has been. We're just filled with these players.

There needs to be a concerted effort by this front office to add 5v5 offense.
That’s why as much as Panarin hasn’t been the same player and has been fairly criticized for his playoff performances, it’s not so easy to just get rid of him when the rangers never generate anything 5v5 offensively when he’s not on the ice. At least up front.

Game 7 of last year's Cup Final was a 2-1 game
You need to be able to do it because the goals won't be there every night for even the best offenses. So it's good that some structure has come back into the fold.

I mean, of course it did, we sent two pylons back to the manufacturer this year.

Trocheck was also a key cog his first couple of years (34 and 39 ES assists) and him turning into basically a second Lafreniere has been really alarming.

Othmann and jones are trade chips. Scouts have definitely seen stuff they’ve liked these past few games. Curious to see how Drury handles things.
I have no problem packing Othmann-Lafreniere and Perreault for Tkachuk . I mean if Othmann is that bad as some pegged him as in his 44 ? minutes of NHL play on here and Laf is a bust....as he could be and then Perreault of slight build and questionable speed and still an unproven NHL commodity on a team that eats it's young......if we landed Brady with that small an offering we win BIG . Heck I would even toss in the midget Berard . Rangers would be crazy not to do it . I think they would need to even the money up but other than that it is a fair trade once Brady wants out this Summer .

There's a funny scene in The Pursuit of Happyness where Will Smith is selling those MRI scanners or whatever the f***, and he tells his son "I promise you I'm not coming back with this thing today." Sure enough, we goes to work and somebody returns one, so when he goes to pick the kid up at school, he has two of them and the kid just side-eyes him.

That's Lafreniere and Trocheck this year. I thought I got rid of one clown and now I have two.

Got to listen to Darren Pang on Max call Ovechkin a 'one trick pony' and said it's easier to score goals today than it used to be because of- God I can't even remember the reason. I would have shit on it if it was a poster here, let's put it that way.

Some of these more Parochalistic Canadians are having a real hard time with the idea of a Russian being the top goal scorer of all time.

we really need some shooters
What Othmann is supoosed to be. It's early in his stint, I'm sure he will be pulling the trigger more soon.

Hagel.....30 goals and none on the PP .

I mean, it's easier to score goals than it was like post-lockout up to like 2019, but Ovechkin also played then.

And it's not as easy to score as it was when Gretzky set the record.

I make fun of him because of course I do, but Ovechkin is pretty comfortably the best goal-scorer of all-time.

He's signed until 2032, but the example is accurate.
It is a crazy stat for sure . Their PP must be good if he is not on either .

I was wondering on the extra 5 minute OT goals.....does anyone know what the Gretzky /Ovie numbers are during them ?

That's not a point.

Playing well in and of itself isn't good enough to beat anybody. A lot of times it's a tossup.

Losing an overtime game doesn't create a sweeping conclusion on how good or bad anyone is.
Apparently five months of a season isn't long enough either

He’s also slow

Greatest goal scorer IMO of all time has to be Bossy . Injuries killed his career way too early . Every older Ranger fan knows this and experienced it .
Funny people say that when a year after he did 50 in 50 Gretzky shit all over him with 50 in 38 and 92 overall. How is Bossy better again?

You're seriously thinking that a single game loss in OT (also with roster gaps because of TDL considerations or short-term injuries) means that we can't beat good teams CONSISTENTLY? I mean the Rangers are where they are for a reason (you're what your record is, right) but your conclusion seems off base. We will see where they are after TDL but assuming they will get relatively healthy by playoff - the Rangers should be at least competitive.
Apparently the last 5 months don't mean much right?

From Gretzky's NHL debut to Bossy's retirement, Gretzky outscored him by 92 goals.

Bossy is only a year older than Gretzky. They played in the same league both in their primes and it was pretty clear who was better.

Why is this so hard.

Cuylle or even Rempe net front.
Panarin on left wall
Zibs in bumper
JTM on right wall.
Jones.

This team fundamentally doesn’t understand how to create optimal shooting lanes
