Post-Game Talk: Caps

He never had Strome beat.

Most players in the NHL today would call this having a step. Those that can skate and see the D-man reaching like this would just keep moving their feet.

Don't necessarily disagree and if he shot I would have been fine with that too. I just don't think it was a slam dunk, wide open look. Just a bit of an overreaction imo.
lol at this backpedal.

your hyperbole at others reaching for grand design is just hot fart air. you want to abstract the significance of that play into the statistics of 3on3 overtime, probabilities, chaos, whatever.

The point is that in that situation, you take the f***ing shot. Not doing so ensures you do not score on the shot you don't take. You're the one making assumptions about how the play proceeds from that point.

you're making it about people blaming zibanejad for losing the game. i don't see people doing that. I see them blaming him for not taking the shot.

It’s never going to be a slam dunk. But most of the snipers in the league have a massive ego and say f*** you I’m going to score and shoot it anyways. On top of that even if the stick was in the lane you can argue that you take the shot and it deflects towards the net resulting in a goal. My point being, it’s overtime, just take the f***ing shot you never know what is going to happen.

Mika of old would of taken the shot
Again, I don't really disagree.

I don't have any problem with the opinion of "Mika should have shot that." Or maybe he could have driven on Strome, which wouldn't have been a guarantee either.

All I'm saying is, people reacted to it like it was Patrik Stefan missing the empty net.

He was definitely on a heater before the callup, but the body of work as a whole isn't something where I think it's the case that he should be a surefire NHLer and the rangers are mishandling his development. Would be more than happy to be proven wrong.
i agree re: surefire impact NHLer. i just don't think he's being put in a position to maximize his talent or playstyle, and i suspect he is trying not to make mistakes, being encouraged to do so, losing confidence in his game, fitting into the hierarchy of the team as a supporting player, and generally not being unleashed as a rat with a baller shot.

Strome is literally in front of him here. I feel like I'm going insane.

Come on dude. You can just watch the highlights and slow it down. Zib just needs to keep skating. He can even shoot it! Lol. His stick with the puck is PAST the defenseman. That's how he got the pass off!

I watched it 16 times.

It's not that great of a shot opportunity.

Again, I'm fine with "he should have shot it" but the immediate reaction to it was ridiculous.

Talk about a backpedal.

I'm waiting for you to tell everyone what I was so wrong about that I'm gonna "crash out."

Don't wait a year for Brennan Othmann. I'm sure you have something. Go ahead.
i already wrote it, twice now. Certain players like Berard have an energizer bunny motor.

other young players that have talent need to be put in a position to succeed. i'm seeing othmann as part of a continuum of rangers skill players coming up and playing scared. at his best he is a f***ing rat. I'm not seeing it, which means he's not comfortable and not playing his game.

I'm not saying hes an impact player or ever will be. Im saying it's dumb to decide you know what he is right now.

I'm saying he deserves a real chance and he's playing with parssinen, who you disparage in the same breath, and brodzinsky, who you shat on with kakko and wennberg last year but have now come around on.

Who is driving the bus on that line? The undersized 30yo AHL tweener? the 24yo 7th rounder who has been traded twice and is fighting for his life? or the kid in his 7th nhl game?

The reaction is because he made a shit pass play on a team that has been overpassing for as long as I can remember. People have a right to react how they did. It's 2v2 in OT there and not a 2v1. Take the shot. Curl back. Reset. Pass is back to the D while everyone is puck watching. Anything other than a blind pass to no one.

No, no, no, this is a bunch of drivel.

This is what you said:
this sounds like the kind of thing i remind you of when he scores 11 in the first 35 games next year and you crash out
And I asked you for one example of this happening.

You started this with your snarky remark. I didn't do anything.

You don't have an example. You can't name one major thing I was wrong about.

And also, this is what I said:
It's not worth sitting here arguing about and I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't get Othmann. I don't see it.
I don't know where the f*** you got "I decided I know" from that.

It's literally got the word wrong in it.

You imagined I said something and then immediately lost an argument with something you imagined.

That's actually impressive. I tip my hat.

here we go again with the self-congratulatory and hyperbolic sorkin-posting.

you've made it clear that you believe yourself never to have been wrong, so forgive me if a token "hOpE iM wRoNg" isn't something i take seriously.

you may not be wrong about othmann. i dunno. i haven't seen enough of the player or how the Rangers are going to develop and deploy him.

you're saying you don't see it. I'm saying: that's dumb. Is it fair to judge him based on the limited opportunity he's gotten so far. Doesn't that jibe with how we understand this teams skilled forward prospects to have failed in the past?

I'm trying to bring your dumb dismissive "othmann meh" comment into the context of a discussion about forward development. You, on the other hand, want me to give a shit about winning points on this forum. Sorry, I don't.

There is no question Mika should have shot. It doesn’t have to go in. It doesn’t even have to challenge the goalie. The pass was absolutely a lower percentage play. These are professional athletes. Throw it high up in his chest and follow your shot to force an O-zone face off. He may have been covered well enough to argue he wasn’t going to snipe a game winning goal, but there’s no valid argument that he couldn’t have gotten a shot off. Any shot in that situation is the smarter, safer play than the pass he selected. Any NHL player is capable of getting a shot to the net in that situation. He doesn’t have to try to pick a corner. It’s a bad decision.

Yeah, here we go again because you didn't learn the last f***in time you called me out.

You have two options.

1) You can disagree with me like an adult.

And then in that case, we can talk about it. @Boris Zubov, @ReddestRum, and @Richard Banger all made solid points on the play in overtime and I wasn't mean to anybody.

Or

2) You can say "I'm gonna call you out when you're wrong about this and you're gonna be so mad" like a f***in child.

And you'll get the reaction according to the choice you made.

you take this shit way too personally. i call out plenty of people. "like a f***in child" bro someone said "what was his name" earlier and you threw him a thumbs up.

btw SHOW ME WHERE IVE EVER BEEN WRONG is exactly the crashout i expected to wait a year for
