Oddly enough, if you drop down the TOI filter AA and TVR have been our best pair.

Alexeyev has played well in the few starts he's gotten this season. He's big and physical, makes a decent outlet pass, and is a decent skater for his size. He also displayed a bit of a mean streak I didn't know he had in game one. I hope our luck with the young guys continues and he has a coming out party in this playoffs. We really need him with the loss of Fehervary.

AA is getting his chance, if he proves reliable that's a big bonus.

The D I'm watching this series is Sandin, seems like he's made for this one.

There is no Chychrun-Roy on here. I don’t know the source. Can you filter it down by games played and show that with AA-TVR? Would love to see that paid. Put Sandin back with JC74 and AA-TVR.
Its moneypuck.

And Chychrun-Roy is ranked 8th of 9 pairings with greater then 100 minutes this year.

7th was Fehervary and Roy. Basically the only person Roy's had any good play with has seemingly been Sandin this year.

Sandin is the chosen one, chosen to be our secret weapon. Locker couldn't wait to divulge a play from practice that I think had Sandin out in front.

If I was Montreal I would go heavy and dress X. Yes I was the ONLY person on the planet that thought Vegas should have continued to dress Ryan f***ing Reaves vs us in the finals. Roll the dice and maybe he can neutralize Willy. Willy, who absolutely destroyed Karlsson in game 2 IIRC. RR used his brute strength to score in game 1 and got benched and it was the only game they won. You see Ovi in front for the OT game winner? Punch and cookies were served up, the G hung out to dry by their tiny weak scared D.

If I was MSL I would dress X park his ass in front and tell him to try to goad Willy into a instigator or rough. Let him get his 8 minutes and tell him to pummel all our small forwards and then take on Willy.

We are the bully and Montreal will have to punch us back to have a chance.I know, its not 1970 so they'll try to finesse us and win on tending, but MSL is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Be very careful with D pairing analytics. They are heavily skewed by different usage.
I don't disagree, and I'd have liked to find deployment data but it's always a pain in the ass to find all that. Everyone and their mother has their own patreon content with stats hidden behind it.

I don't concern myself with pairings we perceive as negative in my old age. Even if it gets exploited Carbs can change it a shift later. More than the pairings failures is the coaches stubbornness to adjust. By making a weak pair he makes another stronger in some way. I am old school and prefer a mover with a homer sticks on boards. But the game is largely all movers now and if Chych and Carlson have direct hands in goals all is well.

But hockey is never that easy as we saw in those fateful 10 minutes in game 1. You can study all the d pair advanced stats but it won't stop our forward from tripping our goalie. Or Montreals colossal mental mistake leaving THE goal scoring king alone in front in OT. An old school stay at homer type would have had Ovi tied up. Instead Cole's bro was scared hiding off to the side.

I don't know if i missed it but did anything come out about Chychrun playing injured?

He is not the same player that he was in the beginning of the year. His skating and creativity, its night and day compared to first half of the year.

Perhaps he is. I don't see him making the crazy moves on the blueline anymore. He's lost his shiftiness, or his confidence.

First 2 periods about as good as you could hope for once again. Pretty much how they’ve looked at their best this year. Still need to keep on the gas in the 3rd. It was better than last game, not great though.

When both teams are playing 'normal' hockey, Washington is clearly a lot better. It's only when Montreal gets desperate and ramps up the forecheck that the Caps just can't cope. On the bright side - that's how it's gonna be x10 if they make it through to Carolina in round 2. Good practice, if they can keep their heads.

Beauvillier had another strong game. Better keep him there if Protas is back in for Friday. Sit Raddysh, or even Mangiapane. Leonard had his best game as a Capital, keep him in.

Thought Alexeyev was looking shakier as the game progressed. He's a concern for me, but they have no other option, so let's hope for the best.

Armia & Laine were essentially benched in the third. The Caps are going to need a lot more skilled execution and composure handling forechecks going forward. Take it and learn from it. They managed this one, largely thanks to Thompson, but when they are largely in control of games they need to manage higher quality looks to create more needed insurance.

I didn't watch G1 but, G2, AA did not look good as advertised IMO. Something to keep an eye on.

Pro should be back for G3.

I really want the Caps to have that ruthless killer instinct for once and just win both games and end these midgets.

G2, AA was wearing a fishbowl on his head, and dealing with the puck to the face, like swelling and pain. AA doesn't bring the same skills as Fever did, but he's held his own and not been any sort of liability out there at all. He's leapfrogged over Dylan Mac at the most important time of the year. We're lucky to have him right now.

We're playing 'pretty good' overall
- starts have been solid mostly esp. physical game; thought that was going to be an issue getting the skates moving going into gm1, thankfully boots be scooting
- offense needs finish. 2 goals for won't get you far (though thrillhous'd we've kept MTL to 2g and 1g so far)
- feels like we're playing catch up to get our game up to speed/quality/details, the lazy and loose last 10 gms of RS don't just get 'flipped' instantly and we've seen many signs of sloppiness which also affects finishing goals
- LT = 95% awesome minus cpl scrambles way out of net, stepped up huge last night in 3rd
- Dubois line did great last night, liked Willy rope-a-doping JAnderson into only PP of game
- keep dominating physically, Habs are cowering and thinking thrice about getting smashmouth'd

seems like we're getting there step-by-step, shaking off rust
hopefully Pro is back for gm3 or gm4 at latest, before laceration injury I was positive he was going to be the 'Playoff Breakout Star' of all 16 teams and have every oppo fan jealous
Can't wait til we have an Offense explosion and light up MTL for a 5-spot, I vote for gm3 ;)

Keys to game 3 will obviously be weather the storm early and slow the game down, take the crowd out of it. Crabs will certainly be flying. Do more of the First 40 minutes and less of the last 20 minutes of game 1/2.
