Speculation: Caps Roster General Discussion (Coaching/FAs/Cap/Lines/etc) | 2024-25 Summer Edition

The Caps need 4 points to clinch the Eastern Conference. They're behind the Jets for the Presidents Cup race / home-ice throughout the entire playoffs.

I'd rather they "settle" for the Conference and then do some load management. Give Pro as much time off as he needs. And then do the same with Carlson, Ovie, Eller, Dowd, and anyone else 34 or up.

ESPN was saying they want Ovie to sit tomorrow so he can get it at home and build up the game better Tuesday night.

I would LOL and all the NYI fans buying $600 tickets and he doesnt play

This had occurred to me. Personally, I'd prefer he break it on home ice, and realistically the team doesn't have to win every game through the end of the season. But given how the NYI ticket pricing went, the attendance, I feel him not playing at this point would be a bit of a slap. If they had announced it late last night or first thing this morning, fine. But it wouldn't be a good look now. (No guarantee he scores anyway.)

Am I the only one that noticed how stoked Carlson was on the Ovi tying goal
Nope. Loved seeing that.

I have this weird fascination with knowing how 'milestone' pucks get grabbed. Like, who on the team thinks to grab it. I guess it's my interest in seeing which guys think about that kind of thing, process how important a goal may be to another player.

With Ovie's goal, Knight just idly sent the puck back out towards center ice. Obviously, the refs knew the importance.
On Leno's goal, Duhaime immediately made a beeline to the net to grab it, held on to it through the goal hug. Good Dewey.

Not shocking, they’ve been teammates longer than most players entire careers, this is their sixteenth year together. They’ve been through thick and thin, they’ve won a cup, they’ve both become fathers over that time. Someday both of their numbers are likely to be up in the rafters together.

In a perfect world goal 895 will be assisted by Carlson and Wilson, three longtime teammates that will most likely be Caps for life.

Yeah, only two home games left this season I think. Would be idiotic to sit him in hopes he scores one of those games, if he ends up not and the team goes into the playoffs with that weight on them.

Play him every game until he gets the record, then you can talk about resting. Sitting him to break it on our own terms is just begging for him to hit a cold streak, or any other instance of bad luck.

This.

Also despite nobody mentioning it, i think this late this record chase has been a distraction for the team. Which given it's magnitude isn't really a shock. But i'm sure Carbery wants this done as soon as possible so they can get their game in order before the Playoffs.

As we head down the stretch and Carbs is just trying things (esp considering Pro might miss some time), I’d like to see: 24-80-9

I think Lenny could work well with Mikey’s playmaking instincts, and be the finisher. And Lenny and Dubie are vibing housemates, lol

Just for fun to get Lenny going before he gets banished to Ellerville, and the PLD line re-fortifies as a matchup line.

I don't see him getting put with Eller. Carberry loves him.

id prefer they dont win the presidents trophy. all that does is bring up bad memories and give all the caps hating media reason to talk about why they wont win

I'm not ANTI President's Trophy, don't really believe in the curse.

But if I have a choice between winning the Eastern Conference and giving some guys a chance to rest vs going all out for top overall while still being dependent on another team losing with no guarantees of success I know which option I'd choose.

But of course these options aren't mutually exclusive. They can continue pushing hard until the final game of the regular season, see where they're at in relation to the Jets, and then decide.

My PT rants are about what happens down the stretch like what we've been seeing the last several games

cheating the game, poor efforts, bad details, Will vs. Skill have all suffered for weeks while every other team is either fighting to get in or fighting for position and don't have to worry about "flipping the switch"

'Dey Soff'/Will vs. Skill is what often knocks out better teams in Rd.1

Game 1 for Caps probably 4/20 per Gulitti 2 weeks 2 days after the injury
