I didn’t join that debate but I don’t think there’s any room for CMM if they acquire McCann. Seems like even the best possible version of what CMM could be isn’t what McCann already is.

1 time 40g guy, more regularly a 20g guy, but still in the 60-70 point range. But if he’s playing 3c are we getting that return? No good at the face off dot either.

I'd play McCann on the wing in the top 6 and push McMichael down to 3w. McCann is literally just a slightly better, slightly more proven version of McMichael. Great age and contract situation too for this team. By far the best fit of all the possible names if he really is being made available.

McMichael-Eller-Raddysh
Duhaime-Dowd-Mangiapane

Replace Raddysh with Leonard and Mangiapane with Miro for next year and you're golden

I don't know. He's got 2 more years at a really good number and can play both positions in a pinch. I think he gets bid up, and I don't know how long Seattle's going to keep moving impact guys for futures, so it might take a roster guy or fully-cooked/highly-regarded prospect.

If we end up with a logjam at wing, you work that out in the offseason. No need to move CMM now. Depth for the playoffs is huge.

He's been a LW pretty exclusively for a while now. I've seen them play him a center when there's injuries, but he's primarily a wing.

As others have noted maybe where this could be upgraded is 1C. Maybe Strome + Lappy + AA + 2015 1st for a soon to be Elete 1 C with term over the summer. Not sure who, any thoughts on who?

Then go big FA shopping when/if Ovi retires.

Which is the real McCann. The 40 goal year or this year??? This is basically the same argument many have been applying to CMM during/after a slump in his best ever year.

He's primarily not Mangiapane because he's signed for a couple more years at $5m. Playing 3W for the Kraken isn't helping his numbers this year, so in my opinion he's somewhere between his best and today, making his cap hit a steal.

Could break the other way, of course, but if he's really available then he jumped pretty high up on my list. Not sure I'd meaningfully subtract from the roster for him though. This team can do real damage in the postseason as-is. I only want to add to that.

No one in the NHL ever gets bid up. Even if he does, keep adding on futures instead of a piece that can help us win this year like McMichael.

I'd be shocked if that were true. Players *definitely* get bid up in free agency. There's at least a handful of overpays every year, and I doubt that *always* happens because a GM was a dipshit.

Leonard needs to play wing to start out as he hasn't played center in a few years and it's a tough ask of a rookie to transition from wing to center as a pro.

If there's one thing I really do see and believe from CMM (after wondering if he was trade bait a year ago to be fair) it's always been that he takes a few passes in the league he's in to figure out how to be good but he has always figured out how to be very good.

Because these are the playoffs we're talking about and if DSP can do it... we still don't know who finds that level. Last year was okay but kind of a wash because they were gassed down the stretch and not expected to do shit, but now those guys have seen the playoffs.

I just have a very hard time punting CMM, who has made serious strides and become a more threatening player in the offseason in most of his "adult" hockey career because he might not do some of the stuff you want from a fully cooked guy.

I get that you don't like him now but are you really telling me he's done cooking? Again this is coming from somebody who probably would have made some of these trades last year, but I see a guy working hard to improve himself and seeing results. His IQ has always been his best asset, so why stop now?

What McMichael-esque guys have been moved in a deal for a better player recently? Chytil in the Miller package, Vilardi in the PLD package, Geekie in the Sergachev deal? All of those upgrades were for players at least one tier above what McCann is currently.

I agree with you on this, which is why there's zero chance more than two of Lappy/Miro/Leonard/Cristall are on the NHL roster at the same time next year.
