There’s 8 winger spots. I don’t view Raddyish and Duhaime as elite 4th liners whose spots are locked down.
Agreed, but I also don't think you trade for Hoglander to be a 4th line winger or want Miro/Leonard/Cristall to be 4th line wingers long-term.
No way in hell are all three of Lenny, Miro, and Cristall in the line up full time next year.
No but it's very realistic that two of the three could make it next year. And, all three could definitely be in the lineup by 26-27.

Yep….I'm seeing a pending logjam. Somebody could very well be moved.
That’s what the AHL is for. Caps have been patient with their prospects, I hope that continues.

That’s pretty far off and who knows how our guys will pan out. And Ovie will likely be gone by the time Miro/Leonard/Cristall are all impact NHLers.

You send him back. Unless things massively shift. He’s been solid in his time, I think he’s gotten better each game, but in that same stretch Lapierre has also been good and producing. Miro will get every chance to have a full time spot next season. He and Leonard will likely be full timers.

I'm not sure I see the fit given the extension. Weren't we just arguing about how Leonard is going to be in the NHL next year, and I have to imagine Miro will be too? Plus, Cristall nearly made the team out of camp last year. And their best prospect outside of those three is another winger (Parascak).

If you assume that Ovechkin, Wilson, Protas, and McMichael are the other top 9 wingers, where does Hoglander fit beyond 24-25?
The GM’s job is to acquire talent, right? IF he can do that, while not losing much in trade, then he should?

Don’t be worried about beyond 2025. Lots can and will happen. IF Miro, Leonard, Cristall are all truly ready, then GREAT problem to have, and work another deal.

Far as today? I’d take Hoglander over Miro/Milano/Vrana. For this team, this year. But that’s just me.

After that? He’s taking Mangiapane’s spot, possibly. At a cheap price.

I would have agreed with you before the season started. Especially on Raddysh.

But now, 20plus games in? Those 2 are excellent players and important pieces to what they are doing. IMO. At least, for this year. They are absolutely locked into the top 12 as W’s.

Sure, shit can change in an instant. But not as of right now

Yea they are good for now but we were talking about beyond 24-25.

I could see them being let go for requiring raises or making room for other guys. 4th liners tenures aren’t usually that long.

They can’t afford Mango I think…they should be asking for one of Lappy, Miro, etc…

You’re not getting a young 20g scorer for our junk.

He isn't 20-goal value forward right now and that why Caps are likely interested. Also it's why he'd be on the block to begin with.

This screams like Canucks no longer believing he's bot worth his new contract. It'd be a buy-low trade.

I think Milano for Hog isn't far. Both had a good last season. Milano is hurt now and Hog has his new big extension kicking in and he's currently on pace for 7 goals and 18 points.

Good luck….our junk seems highly unlikely to be the final sale price…..

Mange is pacing for 20 goals which is pretty good for the role he's playing. (53.4% of his even strength icetime has come with some combinations of with Eller, Lapierre, Vrana, and/or Sgarbossa.) It's probably not worth his cap hit, but even getting 20 goals from a $3M cap hit is no sure thing. So I'm of the mind the let it ride with him through the remainder of the season.

Hoglander has only had the 1 strong season last year, was that an aberration or can this 5'9" strong forechecker actually start producing again

I doubt GM is willing to give Lapi or Miro or another prospect away for him;
now if it's Vrana/Milano + a 3rd or something, sure, but Hog is unproven and struggling this year

Re: Hoglander and really any deadline or in-season change

Hoglander is a fine player. A 1 time 20 goal scorer (who shot 20% for those 24 goals) who is having an awful season and had his spot taken by ... Kiefer Sherwood. He would've been a great buy-lowish guy last season or the one before that where we weren't really sure what we had at pretty much all our forward slots. We absolutely do now, and I just don't see where he would be playing either this season or long-term.

The team is rolling right now, the third line was the one real weakness and bringing Eller in and moving Lappy to wing has completely stabilized it. Mangiapane is perfectly fine at 3RW. Miro has been great too. Don't make any unnecessary chemistry changes for no reason.

Also hate to bring this up again but can't believe people are worried about a theoretical Marner or Rantanen signing "blocking spots" but are willing to take a flyer on Hoglander ...

I hope Coach Carbery has the balls to take Ovie off the PP. The coaches have to see what we are all. He is to easy to defend and takes 2-3 min shifts.
I think he can still get the record without tanking the PP
